Default Santa Marta apartments or house for rent?

Hi,
I am planning on going to SM at the end of feb. Anyone have any info on renting an apartment of house for 3weeks to a month? My novia is in Baq and is doing some research too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way this board is great, wish I would have found it sooner. Thanks in advance.

Meatsuace, I am not sure about apartments, but if you can get a place near the Rodadero area of Santa Marta, you will be happy. It is the nicest area in Santa marta. Make sure you get a trip out into Tayronna National Park! Best beaches are way out in the park!

Sauce,

I´m in the Santa Marta region now (in a little dial up internet cafe 10 minutes north of SM in a fishing town called Taganga) but I was staying in the Rodadero barrio last week. I have a good lead for a furnished apartment there but will have to post the information for you later as I only found out about it last night. It is supposed to be a very nice apartment that is inexpensive, something difficult to find at the moment since it is the expensive high Holiday season.

Lastlion is correct about Tayrona Park having the nicest beaches. I went to Bahia Concha (part of the Park) the other day and experienced a wonderful day of pristene beaches, warm water, sunny blue skies and hot 30 degree weather. (Go to the north end of the beach for the best spot.)

The vendors are even polite and won´t bother you like they do in Cartagena. We had a delicious fish lunch fried to order. The vendor stopped by with examples of the different types of fish available that day and brings you your lunch at the time you request it. For dessert, try one of the cookies they bring by...coconut and arequipe or the tamarindos are especially tasty.

Any questions you might have, fire away. Check back tomorrow or the day after regarding the apartment contact information.

Hi guys,
thanks for all the info. Right now it is looking like Feb 23 when I will fly into BAQ pick up the novia then head to SM on the 24th. I will definitely check out Rodadero and Tayrona Park. Also anyone know of a spanish school in SM. I might as well get some learnin while I am there.

Meatsauce, the cookies Tinto mentioned are great, as well as the fish in tayronna. The Boardwalk in Rodadero and Santa marta central is a fun at night. About every hundred feet there was a different street band playing as well as some fun street shows happening! Me and my girl really enjoyed Santa Marta!

Hi meatsauce!!!!!!

The above advice is great.

The beaches are great at the park!!!!!! My only advice is try to go to the park with many people because the park is not totally safe. My wife made me wear a hat and sunglasses. Also, I was instructed by the tour guide not to talk during to trip into the park until we got to the beach.

Have a great day!!!!!!

Tim

I have the information on the Santa Marta (Rodadero) apartments. The owner´s name is Tannous and his contact information is tannousymg@hotmail.com, cellulars are 311 437 7995 and 311 561 2552. He does not speak English.

I have not seen the apartments that Tannous owns but met him at my novia´s family New Year´s eve party (he is her cousin) and he seemed like a nice guy. The apartments sure are priced right at around 55 mil pesos per night in the high season (which lasts approx. until Jan 25th) when they go down to 35 mil. In comparison, I was staying at an overpriced one bedroom apartment for 250 mil per night so his apartments sound very reasonable.

Enjoy your stay but don´t forget to bring your sunglasses, very warm weather clothing, sunblock, swim trunks, including walking shorts as they are acceptable here on the coast. Mahalo!

PD I recommend a taxi driver by the name of Javier. He´s an honest likeable guy that has a newer small, air-conditioned Chevy taxi and I´ve used him frequently during my visit. His numbers are 315 724 5218, 301 350 0448 and casa 421 3693. Solo español.

Tim... do you know if the not talking tip is new (maybe because of the recent situation with the para/Farc talks being called off? Apparently there is a new group (para) in the area, but I have not been able to verify this... at least not yet.
I have been to tayrona several times in the past couple years with my novia, and I have this has not been a concern until now.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the info. This board is definetely worth the price of admission! Who and where do I send donations too! I will have my novia call about the apartment tomorrow. I am not sure that a hat and sunglasses would even hide me enough. Anyone see the movie "powder" ? lol. I do really appreciate all the information. I will be sure to take lots of pics and if anyone needs any research done, real estate costs or anything, let me know and I will check it out when I am there.
Thanks
