I will still be in the north as before, but maybe we can meet half way somewhere ? I got your pm and will contact you when in town.

In Peru I was set up by someone pretending to be a police officer in Lima. They took my camera...but more important than that was the lost fotos of the previous country -- Colombia.

If you visited the base, you went down Magsaysay to get there... I guess it has all changed, not surprisingly. The Navy provided alot of income for the economy with that base. When an aircraft carrier fleet would come in for R and R, I would not even bother to go ashore -- too many people. Those days are gone.

When we ban someone, it is not done lightly. There is much discussion between the three of us BEFORE a ban is issued on someone, especially a long time member. We do not share those reasons publicly. I can assure you, it was nothing personal.

As far as Jim saying that members (plural) were banned, yes, that is true. In total, two people were banned. Again, there were reasons behind it and they are not public. If you missed the posts that caused this... Im glad. No one needed to see them. They were complete BS and craziness.

Now... lets move forward. There is no reason for the topic to come up again.
Big E,

Knowing that any words I write on this subject could be misconstrued I would like to respond to what you said. With that in mind, I hope that you will read my post carefully and that you'll respond.

I beg to differ that this topic need not come up again because I think that discussing why someone was banned could be beneficial to the forum. It would also help clear the air so to speak about any misunderstandings and show that members are being treated fair and impartially.

It is easy to understand why a poster would get banned when the reasons are obvious such as someone violating posted Terms of Service (spamming, flaming, revealing someone's personal information, etc.) but when someone is banned for a stupid comment like the one I made in Ray's thread where he announced the forum was going to change to a pay per view site how can you make the claim that "nothing personal" was involved in the discipline decision?

Also, your comment that only two posters were recently banned isn't accurate as I'm aware of three; Encinoman, Jim and me. I have been in recent communication with both Eman and Jim and from what they told me the reasons they believe they were banned (Eman permanently) were not as you say, "complete BS and craziness". In fact, Jim never knew why he was given the 30 day ban that when ended, somehow became a permanent ban.

I understand that some reasons for getting banned don't need to be discussed on the forum but word gets around fairly quick and when it is perceived that decisions were made in haste and when no TOS were violated it gives the appearance that personal feelings came into the decision making process to discipline a forum member by giving them a temporary or permanent ban.

I can only speak for myself and what happened with me but receiving a 60 day ban for my comment that was later reduced to 25 days is in my opinion, an overreaction and was not necessary. I was not aware that putting one's foot in his mouth deserved such a disciplinary action. If this is true then most of us would be sent to stand in the GT corner at one time or another.

It is my hope that the GT Terms of Service will be followed when it comes to the rare disciplining of forum members and not influenced by personal feelings made by one of the moderators or forum owner. I think a stronger camaraderie will occur among the forum members if fair, reasonable and common sense TOS are adhered to.

Tinto,

What part of last post on the subject did you not understand?

We are NOT going to go into public detail on why the two members were banned.

Jim DOES know why he was banned. EMAN DOES know why he was banned.

End of story and end of this thread...
