I don't have a solution to this either but one thing seems clear to me. If you pay pirates the ransom they demand, that makes pirating profitable and you get more pirates. As Ronald Reagan said, "If you subsidize something, you get more of it."

Estimates on CNN of between $50 and $150 million paid in ransom last year. Plus the pirates get their pick of Somali women.

The rational offered by the shipping companies is that an armed fight would escalate the conflict and with combusible cargo worth hundreds of million dollars and the possibility of blowing up the entire ship and its crew, they reason ransom is a cheaper option.

Now that the pirates made the grievous error of targeting a US ship, this problem will finally get the attention it deserves.

While the publics' attention is on the Somalian pirates, and their millions of dollars of ransom demands. The pirates of the Caribean have been stealing us blind to the tune of trillions, if not quadrillions of dollars, and what do they get when their debts become worthless, bailed out by the U.S. taxpayer. All thanks to the stupidity and corruption of the idiots who don't realize the "global casino economy" is dead, and should be put through bankruptcy protection, and peoples' savings and pensions and those things that are in the public interest like credit to business that promote the general welfare or common good should be honored. And the ___ _____ financial parasites and their hedge funds, and derivatives, and worthless "toxic assets" should be written off, and the swindlers thrown in jail, or told to go to hell; not bailed out at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer so they can continue stealing from us in their Ponzi schemes of quadrillions of dollars in speculative debt, and be allowed to eventually destroy our dollar and nation in the name of a one world fascist government dedicated to the banking interests and the collection of their "pound of flesh" no matter how many people are killed as a result.
