Smile Spain's South Coast - Malaga!

Gentlemen, I got one big wild hair in Colombia and ended up in Malaga Spain. The "California coast of Europe" as they say. My reasoning for coming is, well, why did Adam bite the Apple? Why is Caprice falling out his SoCal crib for the DR? Now the good stuff will come as the days go by, for now the Gringo is in Spain. Any questions? As our man Shep would say, fire away!

How do Colombians view Spain? Truly as a motherland of sorts? Are there any ill feelings towards the Spanish for the slavery and colonization that went into creating what we now call Colombia?

Caprice, the euro is better than the good ol` dollar and yes, stuff her ainīt cheap, but bro, I rank Spain booty a solid 5.5, nothing like Big Poppa Pump aka Santo Domingo. Stories I heard over the years about Colombianas, Brasilieras coming over to Spain, a new life - a new bginning. I had to see it for myself. Bottom line, I am learning a lot about the Euro-LA connection. A wonderful experience.

Colombians in general are not liked in Spain. Espainola women see them as coming over and taking their men, which they do. I`m reading in local papers that cocaine use among the male populace is a serious problem in Spain.

Hey Ray, if you get a chance, try going to Ibiza. I know some cute Colombianas living there and a couple of other girls living in the Canary islands. Tenerife!

Cheers! and have a good time.

Talking about Colombian big butts, has anyone ever tried those hormigas culonas? I hear that the Europeans consider them a delicacy. Tastes just like peanuts from what I hear.

KP2, appreciate the heads up. I was thinking about the Canary Isles, but not sure. Always wanted to see Paris and Rome Italy, Lisboa is half the Motherland to Brazil. FWIW, hormigas are sold and eaten in B-Manga, and believe it or not Colombians consider BM "ground zero for big butts" or "ColaLand" as one local told me last year. My 7 days there was not enough time to form an opinion.

Spain is NOT a place I would ever want to live. The people donīt appear very happy. No comparison to South America. Taxi drivers, these guys, most have an attitude, some are real assholes. The service at most restaurants is horrible. Lots of of European tourists in Malaga. Obese people from England, Germany, Swiss, etc. Feels like Disney World/Land in the States.

Ray,
I guess I've already expressed my opinion about living in Spain, something you just found out for yourself.

When I was living over there, I took a trip to Mallorca, and found that it was like a German colony. The first two restaurants I walked into, I tried to talk to the people in Spanish, and they responded to me in German.

I also made some driving trips up through southeast France and into Switzerland and down into northern Italy. The people in southeast France were way friendlier than I expected, actually they were generally nicer than Spaniards, and I don't speak a word of French. I guess the image that we get of rude Frenchmen comes from people who go to Paris.

I absolutely loved Italy and am studying Italian in preparation of going back in spending much more time there -- 3 days was not even an introduction.

If you're thinking of going to Portugal, I highly recommend it, though not if you are hoping to see pretty women. It is a gorgeous country, friendlier than Spain, and many people speak English. The food is much better than in Spain too-- it's not too exotic, but everything has a down-home, homemade flavor to it. It helps if you like fish, although that's not completely necessary. I also really loved the bakery items-- something else that is much better than in Spain. And if you have tried coffee in Spain, rest assured that coffee in Portugal is much better.

I didn't spend any time in Lisbon, but it was absolutely spectacular to drive up the freeway and come across the bridge that spans the Bay of Lisbon -- the view is just striking. No wonder Spain has tried so many times to pick up that extra real estate. There are numerous smaller cities that are fun to visit, such as Sintra, Vieira, Aveiro, Castelo Branco, and Coimbra (somewhat snotty/snooty old university town, I call it the Salamanca of Portugal). Even Oporto, which gets a bit of a bad rap for being kind of an ugly, industrial city, has its charm. That is not an exhaustive list of all the interesting sites to see in such a small country.

Thanks Buel.... I`ll take your advice and hit up Lisbon. Direct hit with Spain. Whats up with these people? Why are the happiest countries w/down to earth folk, good service, good attention are poor countries? Today I entered three different eateries, not one person greeted me, this was after sitting down and reading the menu. One India lady close by, and quite beautiful, a big smile nodded and in broken english "people in Spain donīt come to you because they think they have money and expect you go to them".
