Default I live in Costa Rica

I moved to Costa Rica four years ago, I have residency there.

I moved from California with my wife after our kids left the nest.

There is both good and bad in Costa Rica, i.e.

The good, climate, nature, slower pace of life, really cheap healthcare,

people are mostly friendly.

The bad includes, corruption including the police and goverment employess,

more crime, cost of cars and getting them fixed properly.

overall I am happy and intend to stay.

That pretty well describes anywhere in the third world.

I lived in Costa Rica for seven months before I moved to the Philippines. The great thing for me about Costa Rica is the vast amount of natural beauty which is easily accessible to a tourist. And the worst part, for me at least, was that there are so many gringos that it is almost like the 51st state. Prices for goods and services which appeal to foreigners are not that much cheaper than in the US.

I have visited Costa Rica and liked it much. I know there is petty crime, but nothing as grave as that which is normal in Colombia.

I would like to hear more from those with significant experience in Costa Rica, or expats living there. Seems like a great first place to consider: close to US; beautiful country; nice people. I also know Costa Rica was getting pretty expensive - on par with the US before the financial crash. How is the comparison now?

I have been to Costa Rica lots of time. It is a friendly country. Hitchhiking is far more common in rural areas than in urban areas. The primary language is Spanish. It is world famous for having an incredibly high level of biodiversity.
