Post Bogota Rated Worst City to Live in Latin America

Great article brought some thought to mind . I am sure old DL has something to say about this.. Interesting but after meeting dozens of colombians I too have noticed if it wasnt for the work there they would choose to live in another city..

Although after living in Washington D.C. I wouldnt rate it too high either!

According to a survey of The Economist, Bogota is the least desirable capital city of Latin America to live in.
The report of The Economist Intelligence Unit, released on Tuesday, measured the quality of life in 140 world capitals evaluating 30 qualitative and quantitative aspects in the categories of stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
The survey found that Bogota has been plagued by stability problems due to "constant threats of violent crimes and domestic strikes."
"It is not the first time that Bogota comes off badly in international surveys. This just proves that we are not on a good way," Representative of Colombia's Chamber, David Luna, told El Espectador.
According to the study, Vancouver is the best city in the world to live in, followed by Vienna, Melbourne and Toronto.
The least desirable city worldwide is Harare in Zimbabwe due to "the political, social and economic crisis".

Darn. I guess I'll have to cancel this tickets to Zimbabwe.

I can see the attraction of any large city as opposed to living in the sticks like I do. There is a ton of stuff to do. Bogota is just too cold for me compared to Cali or Medellin. I personally don;t worry much about safety.

I am with Jim. Bogota is a fine city with tons of stuff to do. But it is just too damp and cool and when it isn't, the sun is searing. Plus I always seemed to have a cold from a combination of the thin, polluted air as well as being surrounded by 11 million others who also always seem to be sick.
And I was brought up in the frigid northeast of the USA. For me, Cali (like Key West) has rich air and I am rarely sick. (of body. The mind is a very different story)

I am confused, Toronto, Melbourne and Vancouver are not capital cities.

There are some definite incositancies in that story... I would think that cities like Caracass are considered more dangerous than bogota.. Or LA PAZ in bolivia would be less desirable... Or even the manageua , no offense JW, I can see Salvador El Salvador being more desireable

The weather kills it for me.

Last Lion is right, old DL has something to say about it.

Ive never saud Bogota is perfect, but its the best choice for me.

Look, if I had my druthers, I would probably live in Paris, France,,,and I can hear all the anti French comments coming. But I have family there, the food is spectacular and there is so much to do in Paris...but the women are not so spectacular And I dont have the interest on the 3,000,000 dollars that it would take to do Paris decently.

There are of course more desirable places to live in South America then Bogota, but they would cost a lot more money to live in. I can live in Bogota well on about $20,000 a year.

I have been to Vancouver and Toronto, but not to Melbourne, Ive also been to Vienna as well, all interesting vibrant cities and all costing a ton of money to live day to day.

San Salvador in El Salvador is just like Miami, wall to wall American fast food chains, and obese women. The American dollar is the national currency....how desirable can it be?????

One of my possible scenarios for my retirement is to eventually choose another place to live, for at least a year or two. When you are single and looking for female companionship, choosing a country and a city for its women above everything else makes sense. Since I love travel, choosing another place to live with Mitch might be an option.

If the woman part is taken care of my two goals would be low prices and great food. For me that would probably involve looking for a place in eastern Europe which had the French devotion to gastronomy without the French prices.

Yes young man, a good place to work and for business opportunity, but Medellin is the best city to live in, if you don't believe me ask Micky.

The weather is great, the city seems cleaner, more organized, and the people seem to be some what better educated.
