Default Climate

Any Advise From You Vets On This Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

I Will Be Heading Back To Bogota In February. The Climate Really Got To Me The First Couple Of Days. I Was Unable To Sleep, And Had A Little Problems At Time Breathing, Until I Got Adjusted To The Climate.

Any Of You Vets Have Some Sort Of Solution Or Advise On How To Get Around This On My Return.

Thanks

You are probably referring to the altitude and its effect on you. The elevation there is fairly high at 8661 feet above sea level. Don't consume any alcohol the first few days. HERE are some tips on avoiding altitude sickness and how to treat it.

First of all, congratulations.

Yes, the altitude is something to get used to.

I play squash and after 15 minutes of the start a game here I was exhausted. It takes a week or two to acclimated with sleep, and more if you play a sport or decide to climb the mountain.

Also the polution can have an effect on us.

Even those who are "used" to polution in cities in the U.S. Although not a big problem, I remember a few days where the air did not move. Tough going.

Bogota is a great city, especially the farther north you go. The problem is, that is where the rich people and attitudes are. To find the more traditional people, you have to be where the air is terrible. I lived there for a year and had quite a bit of trouble with the combination of altitude and pollution made it quite tough for me. Even a slight cold could turn into quite a bout. Cali treats me far better, climate wise. (I miss the culture though)

Tom,

Yep, like Tino says it's an altitude problem, the worse I’ve seen is it takes at most 3-4 days to adapt the altitude.

And like Cap 'n Jib says, the pollution can be a problem, just hope for rain (and that’s very likely) and the pollution will be washed away, unfortunately it’s washed into the soil where some of them grow their veggies.

ENJOY Bogota.

Just returned from Bogota, climate did not bother me this much as it did the lst two times. Guess I am getting used to the air in Bogota.

Thanks for all the good info though
