I review books for Amazon.com. After spending three months in Colombia and I reviewed various books about Colombia and there is one I strongly recommend that you consider buying for your trip to Colombia: "Footprint Colombia Handbook" 2nd Edition 2000 by Peter Pollard.
This guide is slightly date (though still very helpful) and this is the most current guide, in English, on Colombia.

Update - posted April 30, 2002
Since I first wrote this post (4/12) Amazon.com has requested that I edit out the comments of new restaurants and hotels that I recommend and only submit the straight review of the book.

Thus, I have placed these recommendations at end of this post. I hope it helps those of you visiting these cities.

Question

FDOAmerica, I would like to think gringotalk is a schill free zone. A forum for gringos to find unbiased opinions about Colombia. It appears from your sales pitch, you are working for Amazon.com and trying to sell this specific book. would you be receiving a kickback sir?

Thank you

Or do you own one of the used copies that they are trying to sell?

Wierd how he pops up out of nowhere.

I couldn't even find his review! Why the hell didn't he just provide a link to it?!

No, I get nothing from the review from amazon.com nor am I reselling anything.

However, because the review is long, and repecting the space here I just refer you to it thinking that you may want recient updates and info. on hotels and resturants that I found. Nothing more.

Thumbs up

Update Bogota. FYI - I found two "good values" while in Bogota

For those not on an austerity budget, the five star Radisson Royal Hotel has a fantastic weekend "Romantic" special for two. This includes dinner, with wine, at the best seafood restaurant in Bogota (which is a $70 value), champagne in your room, plus a large fruit basket and breakfast in bed. This plus a beautiful suite, spa entrance and more, for only $139. This is a great slam dunk for the right woman.

A value not mentioned is the five star Dann Carlton Hotel's weekend rate of $46 a night, breakfast not included (you can pay more at a lesser 3 star hotel).

FJS also says Dann Carlton is real nice, and a good value.
I'll check it out with the end of May parties
going on in Bogota.
