Melgar and Villa de Leyva

I just got back from Bogota. I think enough has been said about Bogota. However, I did go to Melgar and Villa de Leyva.

Melgar is like 3 hours from Bogota but it just a short distance you manage to be on the face of the sun. Melgar is famous for its water park. I recommend you try it. There are numerous swimming pools and even more bikinis if you like that stuff. There are also big water slides and a zoo inside. It is about $20 for the day to get in. Now I was tired so I wanted to sleep by the pool and I have never had the sun just feel like it is penetrating to the bone. Remember I live in Dallas, grew up with the heat and humidity in St. Louis without air conditioning and have spent a great deal of time in Thailand.

The trip to Villa de Leyva was a little longer and we had to stop in Tunja. Villa de Leyva is a colonial city and I have to admit I was very impressed. Not only was it colonial but it was a good size. We had lunch in a house with an amazing back yard. I highly recommend going here.

It sounds like fun, and I'd like to visit that colonial city. I got a taste of that in Cartagena.

Melgar is the most popular weekend place for Bogota because of the relative closeness and the heat. During the week it is fairly quiet, but baby on the weekend, it rocks.

I'll give you all another report on Melgar later this month. I'm headed down to see the wife and family later this month and we are planning a family get-together at a large finca we've rented in Melgar. It should be a lot of fun! Since it will be a holiday weekend, I expect the town will be particularly crazy.

Villa de Leyva is one of our favorite places in Colombia.

The first time I went there, I had that comfortable feeling...like I could live there. Really enjoyed just walking in the city and hanging out in the town square.
