Will be visiting bogota next week to see my girlfriend. Since we already spent some time there we are thinking of going outside of the city. She mentioned Girardot or Melgar for the weekend. Anyone have recommandations where to go about 2 or 3 hour ride max?

-Thanks

If my memory serves me correct, Girardot is the place that Italian dude got rubbed out then his body dumped in the Magdelena. I would be very cautious if you decide to go.

The Giradot/Melgar near Bogota is 1.5 hour drive.
Many people form Bogota go there on weekends.

There maybe more then one city called Giradot in Colombia.

Colombia people love to bolt from any big city on weekends.

That makes perfect sense. I love this country.

I went there about 5 years ago and found it to be a really nice little town. If I remember correctly, there was quite a river that passed along the edge of the town. I don't recall getting the feeling it was more dangerous that any other part of Co.; however, my lack of knowledge of the dangers is not a basis to assume anything about its relative danger/safety. I don't recall there being a lot of nite life there as I was involved in hotel room activities.

Yes but not in the same state. It would be quite confusing if their were two Miami, FL.

Just got back from the weekend in Giradot. Was great, except for the Dengue fever. I'm sure it's nothing.
