Default Traveling to Bogota next in August Advice

Going to meet girlfriends family. Do's/Dont's? Should I hire a driver? Her grandmother lives in the mountains. Is it safe to travel with girlfriend to meet her?

Just found out family lives in Ibague. Whats the best way to get there from Bogota? Should I book hotel in advance, or take my chance to get better rate once I get there?

Believe it or not..... the easiest and cheapest way to ge to Ibague from Bogota is by bus from the terminal on 68th near Salitre Plaza in midtown Bogota.

Its approximately four and a half hours and should cost about 25,000 pesos, call it 13 bucks. If you re returning back to Bogota from Ibague check or keep your passport into the hotel security safe in Bogota and get a recipt BEFORE you leave for Ibague. Make color photocopies of the your passports front photo and data pages and the stamped tourst visa date page Thats enough ID to satisfy the cops if you are asked to produce your ID either in the bus terminal or the police stop the bus on the road and everyone gets off for a routine security check.

As for traveling in the mountains to vist the girl s mother, you ve got to trust her. Just carry the money you need and memorize your debit car and its PIN.

There are plenty of hotels in Ibague depending on how much you want to spend. Any more questions, just ask......

Thanks for advice! Is it better to book hotel in advance, or are better rates available in person?

I don't but unless you speak Spanish with a perfect Colombian accent - let your girlfriend do it - just to make sure you get a good deal.

It is a city of contrasts. People love to travel there. Graceful churches, excellent museums, cultural events and a thriving nightlife can keep you busy for several days. Most breathtaking museum is the Museo del Oro. There are lots of famous and wonderful places to eat also.
