Hi Guys, I will be travelling to Cali for the 1st time this coming week. Have not made accomodations yet. Anyone familar with Cali Hotel Casa Del Alferez? Is it in a secure area? Close to Chipi Chapi Center?
If anyone will be there next week, maybe we can get together.

cifer, welcome to the board. Never heard of that hotel. Let us know how you like it. We've stayed at the Valle Real several times and it is pretty comfortable and less pricy than the Inter and the other high end places, but still pretty nice and well located in the north a couple blocks from the Torre de Cali.

What do you guys think of the Hotel Aristi? I looked into it and I found really good rates for extended stays. Opinions?

Cirfer sounds like your gonna jump right into the thick of things, I don't have any knowledge of Cali to share with you but would be very interested in a trip report from you about Cali and what you experience when you return. Welcome to the forum.

Don't stay in the Aristi. It is in a pretty dangerous part of El Centro and if you make a wrong turn you could find yourself having a pretty unpleasant experience. If you speak Spanish, are pretty threatening looking and know the area, it probably would be ok most of the time. There are just too many better places to stay and the risk isn't worth it to save $20 or $30.

It is tough to beat the Pension Stein. Good location, squeaky clean, less than 10 minutes from AV6, on foot, relatively quiet, nice pool, people, cable, internet and breakfast. Maybe $40.

I actually visited the Cali Hotel Casa Del Alferez. It is very, very nice with beautiful wooden floors if I remember correctly. I also remember inquiring about the rates which seemed to be well above $100.

The area seemed very nice and I do not imagine that a hotel of that caliber would be in a dangerous area. Don't know my way around too good, so I cant tell you about distance from the Chipi.

Aristi is an old hotel that has been renovated to decent standards, but has the best rates in town I could find in Cali at $40/night and it is well located. It is dangerous a couple of blocks away but there is no reason to walk around the hotel. Always take a cab coming in and out. Thats it.
I just stayed there this week and had no problems. I didnt make it in before 2am most nights, and had no issues.

It is one of the famous and luxurious hotel. I had the pleasure to stay at Casa del Alferez a couple of times.. Rooms are large, and the staff helpful.
