Default Country tax fee when leaving Cali

This last trip in October 08, I had to pay a $5 USA country tax fee when I left Cali airport. I first went to a window and got a piece of paper with a stamp on it so I wouldn't have to pay a exit fee. However, I still had to pay a $5 country tax upon leaving. Does anyone have more info about this??

Default Re: Country tax fee when leaving Cali

Yes, I've paid it a few times. First, it was on Avianca. It was collected at the Miami airport and was described as an entrance tax. I believe I also paid the $5 this summer when I was leaving Medellin on Copa. I can tell you that I always pay attention to the break-out of the taxes I pay when I buy a ticket....to find out if the exit tax has been included or not. I believe most airlines have now included all of the necessary taxes in the ticket price, but you never know - seems like policies vary and change regularly.
