Question Global Warming Arriving in Cali??

One of the reasons that I moved to Cali was that I believed that the effects of climate change would be marginalized in a beautiful green country in a city far enough from the sea to not worry about losing my beachfront property (Boy, I still wish that I could afford to live near the water).

This year the mosquitoes seem ferocious. Is anyone else noticing the same?

Of course, this does not apply to those in the Northern US that are just recovering from the recent ice storm. And, yes, I did live in the snow country for more than 40 years and do not miss it at all.

SP is Sau Paulo? Many, many years ago I was a financial analyst in Detroit, MI for the now defunct Burroughs Corporation that had an assembly plant for adding machines (are you old enough to remember them) in Sau Paulo.

By the way, I love your style in the messages that I have read.

You and I are both in serious relationships, but this does not preclude us from contributing to the forum.

Yes, SP is São Paulo.

hmmm Sorry I don't remember the assembly plant you are referring to!

And thanks I agree with you, just because we are in serious relationships doesn't mean we canīt write here... as this board is for discussion about experiences and opinions, not a place to find booty, so it's all good!

PatrickenCali,

As far being warmed up, if you moved from Detroit to Cali I bet that is big weather change especially this time of year. Well, it may like going from snow to a little rain with still warmer. I grow up in Detroit and I do remember the Burroughs corp. who merged with UNIVAC, I worked with their computer systems awhile back. So, outside of the weather how do you like Cali?

Supermary,

I wanted to alert you and the others on the board that there is a great show on Sau Paulo as I speak, 5:00 PM EST Saturday.

It is on the Travel Channel and is called Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations (Sin Reservas en espaņol).

It shows a lot of the city and the surrounding areas and the host's humor cracks me up.

Airto,

I love Cali.

It fits my bill as a retired person, with a tropical climate and enough to do to keep me active.

I only wish that it had a beach.

Buenaventura is about 3 hours from Cali. The fastest way is probably to take a buseta.

However, to get to the beaches on the Pacific Coast you need to take a launch from the public pier in Buenaventura. The closest beaches are about 20 minutes away in boat. I have not visited those. I only have experience with Juanchaco and Ladrilleros, about 1 hour away.

Juanchaco is pretty seedy, but Ladrilleros is much better.

The Pacific coast is quite different from most beaches. The sand is gray, it has big waves, and you canīt believe the difference between high and low tide (it is immense).

The safety of the trip from Cali to Buenaventura is much better during holidays, such as the Christmas holiday now. Not only do the police patrol the road, but the Army and the Marines are also present to protect the public.

BIG WAVES, I know there is some kick ass undiscovered surf sport our there on the Pacific coast.. Too Bad most of it is too dangerous to get to and it might be the last wave you rode!

There are some eco toursit hetels and places opening up there! I think little by little it is getting better!
