Default Here, and gone.

Just found out that my time here in paradise is UP. You only get 180 days a calendar year and mine are over. So it is back to the Good Ole USA until Jan 1. (when I will be on the FIRST New Year's Day flight.) The time in Monteria was very interesting. It is quite a place. Good, because it is small and out of the way. Bad, because it is small and out of the way. Ugly, because it is hot. Bad hot. Our room would be 92 degrees at bedtime and 85 before dawn. But all of that only made the time here in Cali better. There is a huge moon over Cristo Rey this morning. By Sunday, I will be in New England. Damn.

The thing that has been more interesting is how different Cali is from Monteria. I know that Cali is different from even Miami, but the small town attitudes of the Costeņas was a surprise. The locals reminded me of the Cuban fishermen in Key West who would wake me up every morning before 4 with conversations that sounded like serious fights, but was just the way they communicated. Speaking very quickly and very loudly in a clipped Spanish. There were some very cute girls there but they seemed to have the same attitude as a hottie in Plano, Texas or Erie, PA. They know they are something and expect to be treated as such. Not like Cali where the hottie ratio is much higher and there is more competition to be noticed and appreciated. There seemed to be fewer attractive older women too. In Cali is very common to see women in their late 30s and 40s who are still right on. Up in Cordoba, the women are like Asians. Really hot until they are about 24 and then they look (and act) like their mother. Finally the Vallenatos, which for me seems like reggae in that much of it sounds very similar and it is played constantly. Everywhere. Loudly. But Monteria is still better than Plano or Erie.

But I have been accused of being too negative so what were the good things about being in Monteria? I loved not having to get up to pee. You sweat so much that you can have a big glass of water just before you go to sleep and not need to get up until morning. And even then. The wildlife, birds and iguanas, is amazing. It is very lush and green and less than an hour to the ocean. The countryside is quiet and fragrant as you roll past. At night there are tons more people in the streets. Just strolling, or sitting and talking. And on those days when it does cool down, it is very pleasant.

Intersesting...
Generally speaking I have found that speaking... gals SOTB don't age all that well. Maybe its a combination of:

- all the TOXIC sun.
- lack of time and $$ to go to the gym
- high pollution levels in the larger cities

In NYC, there are for more well preserved women in their 40's than anywhere I have seen by far.

I guess thats one more reason to justify a larger age gap as being acceptable.

Question Re: Here, and gone.

I agree- Latin women age worse than a well-maintained AW and Brasilian women maintain themselves better also.

Sail-o,

Have you considered a trip to Brazil yet, perhaps the northeast coast? I think a Brazil perspective could and would be valuable to you, to add to your experience level in Colombia. Who knows, once you arrive in northeast Brazil, you might never leave. A few days in Rio ....then take a big nice comfy Bus up the coast. All you need is a visa stamp from your local Brazilian consulate, in your case up in NE, go to Boston. Fill out the application from, pay $100 and now you have a five year visa to come and go to Brazil as you please.

Bogota-Sao Paulo is less than a five hour flight under $500 if purchased in advance.

I have indeed thought about brasil. It is all just a matter of money. If I can pack enough away during this trip north I will see you in Rio this winter. (summer there)

Sail-O,

Bogota-Panama City-Manaus: Five hours + connecting flight to the NE- another 2-3 hours. Look at it like this; On any given weekend what would you do in Cali? What is the gameplan or your options there? Go to CC or Unicentro? Drink Beer with public forums dudes and look at slim Calenas in tight jeans over a Lemos & Carbon steak? Or spread eagle on a tropical Beach in a comfy lounge chair sipping Coco water from a Coconut and eating pure Acai w/Granola and fresh Banana looking out at the clean blue/aqua sea and the Big Butt Honeys in tongas? And, 50% of these BBHs want to know you.

Here is one visual to help you decide...

Unicentro in Brazil

I know, itīs a hard decision.
