When I was in the Philippines two years ago, internet cafe's where plentiful. Every area I walked in for any length of time, had an internet cafe near by. The rates, while I don't remember them now, struck me as quite reasonable.
I'm curious about Colombia, and Cali in particular. Are there many internet cafe's to be found? What kind of price do the locals pay for internet access in a cafe?
Have any of you set up an account or purchased time directly at an internet cafe for your novia? I would think that would be cheaper to do then to send money via western union to subsidize her time spent talking to you.
Just trying to understand the lay of the land, so to speak.

Last I remember they were about >$0.35 - $0.50 per hour in cali but that was 3 years ago.
Alto- I would think $20 a MONTH WOULD COVER THE COSTS!!
I have never subsidized the internet cafe costs, but I have helped a few girlfriends out ,,, AFTER I MET THEM!!
I was there one year ago and there were lots of internet cafes in Cali. If I remember correctly the cost was about 2,000 CP/hour. The exchange rate at that time was about $1=2,000CP. The first hotel I was at had two computers and free internet for guests, the second had none. I would recommend finding a hotel with a computer because it is a hassel to go to an internet cafe just to check email. One side note is that although the internet cafes were plentiful, they are not easy to spot so you will probably have to ask where they are located.
Internet cafes abound in Colombia,as many people still can`t afford a home computer or the monthly charge for an ISP.. Here,if your `puter goes down Kinko`s gouges your eyes out for a few minutes of service.
If you don't want to pay the $1 an hour in any of the internet cafes you will find on nearly corner, you can take your laptop to places like Chipichape in Cali or Andino in Bogota and log on for free. You see all sorts of people 'chatting' in the tropical sun.
Really nice to see that..unlike so many places here that advertise "free wi-fi" yet you have to register & pay for an ISP once you arrive in order to use it.
