So here I go again. I have my plane ticket (lie, it's an e-ticket, but you know what I mean). I'm heading down, to spend 8 days in Cali ( a lie again, Palmira, but there is no Palmira heading).
Luza and I have been talking almost nightly for the last 6 months and about 4 times a week before that. Aside from the issue with her sick child. Things have been going well.
There have been a few changes in the last six months (strike that eight months) since I was last there in February. Her baby was born and her father has passed. Her father's passing was a rather sudden incident. He had a stroke and lasted less than a day.
I will be staying for the first few days of my trip with her and her family. Then I think we'll take a little trip, but I'm not sure where yet.
Things are getting pretty serious, but of course there's still the issue in my mind of time spent together. I'd like to find a way to get her to the US, but that seems about impossible. Getting my self down to Colombia for any length of time seems more likely, but also not easy.
With this recession, I'm not sure I want to give up the good job I have now. But.. maybe that's something I'll have to consider.
Six months in Cali teaching English, wouldn't be a bad thing. I just need to get my CELTA certification. I've been teaching for the last two years at the local ESL program. I like that work.
In 2003, I took a leave of absence from my teaching job and taught English in CR for seven months. It was a great experience but I was guaranteed of returning to my job and salary. You would be making a greater sacrifice. At the time there were tons of English teaching jobs in CR and not enough people to fill them. I've got no idea if it's as easy in Colombia.
You are 100% right that you have to find a way of spending time with her before you make and permanent decision.

I'd love to meet you man. I'm currently staying with my Novia's family in Palmira. So it's a bit of a trip to Cali, but going to be here through Saturday. I'm sure we can work something out. My phone currently is not working in Colombia. I haven't turned it on to see how the roaming costs are going to crush me. I will try to get something done about that first thing tomorrow.
Bit of a trip to Cali? Not at all! Tons of people commute to Cali from Palmyra. Buses run every minute or so. Drop a line when you get your phone working and I will send you our number. Look forward to it!
For me, who drives everywhere in his car, in the states, any trip that requires public transport is a bit of a trip. I've already traveled to Cali once, so I know it's not much of a trip and the buses run regularly. It's just the difference between being a suburban dweller and getting used to public transport again.
Once you have experienced the driving and drivers here, you might well look forward to a bus. At least you got the cushion of your fellow inmates when he runs off the road gawking at some hot babe strutting by.
