As I plan my travels for 2010, I am interested in current comparisons in Costs of Living from one city to another. I am primarily interested in Medellin at this time ... but, I would like to check out Manizales and Armenia too.
On the surface, Med seems as expensive as US. Last year, Cali was about 30% below my costs of living in Florida - but I lived better. I imagine you get more bang for the buck in smaller cities still?

Housing in CALI is less expensive! I think the most expensive starts with cartegena than bogota than medellin, bucaramanga , barranquilla, santa marta, than cali. I have been keeping an eyes on properties for years now.
Medellin is really exploiting the daily and weekly apartment rental deal and I think that is keeping rents higher, in the upper strata areas, But than again exito is in each city and they all have places with inexpensive rents. You got to get on the street to find the real deals.
I personally would never live in a neighborhood under a strata 5 maybe 4 if it was in a good location.. But than again that's me..

Medellin is one of the best city for living. This is especially true if your living on a fixed income and the cost of medical care, taxes and insurance is rising faster than your Social Security check, pension, or retirement income. It would be interesting to exchange on the cost of life in Medellin, so that future expats in Medellin can make a budget! You must be prepared to purchase property without a mortgage.
