Default Spanish Language Schools

I'm interested in going to Cali for a short, about a month, period of time. I want to take a full immersion spanish language course. Does anyone have any suggestions. Something that can start on short notice?

Or perhaps you know of a good tutor I could work with. Someone who has experience teaching empty headed slow witted gringos. ;-)

Buy a text book at a university or community college as a starting point. US textbooks are far superior to anything you'll find in Colombia. [This is my personal opinion but I am a certified French, Spanish and ESL teacher and I like US books much better]. One benefit is they cover all important Spanish grammar and are a great reference book until you are fluent.

You'll have no shortage of people who'll be able to give you lessons there. If you see a pretty girl in a mall, ask her the same question. Maybe she'll be your tutor. And classes are a great way to meet people also but decide based on convenience to where you stay and if you are impressed when you attend a class.

Tony:

I took lessons last year August at Eafit university in Medellin. I hired a private teacher as when the registration fees were factored into the cost, it was cheaper to go that route. Jim has a good point regarding getting an english based textbook for spanish. The copied pages that I studied from were difficult to understand. I found myself online using translation software and my novia for help frequently.
Do you know where you are going to be staying in Cali ? Had I planned last August better, I would have found a place closer to the college to live at, the time in traffic and cost of commuting became substancial.

I appreciate everyone's suggestions, but...

What I'm looking for is a school in Cali. I have a novia near Cali. I'd like to get some language training and spend some time with her. So schools in other locations aren't really practical.

My whole point in going to Colombia, is to do an immersion so that I have to learn as much as possible just to be able to communicate at any level.

What I'd like to find is a school that has a couple of hours of classroom each day, and then work the rest of the day on my own and with my novia.

I studied in cali for a month. The school was near avenida exta about 8 blocks, it was named something like colombo americano . I did 2 hours a day, and did the long black haired course in the evenings!! See if you can find it..

For all you guys looking for things in colombia

google www.google.com/co

I am surprised your novia cant help you with this, there are a lot of schools in colombia, to learn english and most of the teachers would die to teach some spanish as it is a break from the norm for them/

It is not a short time thing, and all this "Immersion" and what not things......

Bring it back to this....You need exposure, and if you want it, takes a bit of dedication....

Put only Spanish on the TV, read only Spanish newspapers, you have got to get into it 100%
