Default Hostel

Has anybody stayed at the TigerPaw Hostel in Medellin? If so, what is your experience there? Website says it is close to all of the action and the rates seem very reasonable.
I assume most Gringos on this board either rent apts or stay at hotels if not already live in Medellin, but I was hoping to get any feedback i could of this hostel as i would like to consider it on my next vacation.

Crimsonole,

I have not stayed there but I did watch a football game in there bar area. It is close to Parque Lleras (2 blocks maybe). It has a bar and a kitchen. It is right across from an Italian food place that is pretty good and about 4 blocks from a Bodytech gym (24 hour fitness of Colombia). I have never been in a hostel but the bunk beds and community bathrooms are exactly what I pictured one would look like. There are two guys that own it and one of them is a Clemson fan. (hence the name TigerPaw)

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Recon,

I have stayed in many a hostel when i backpacked Europe in 98. Most awesome night was in Paris when France beat Brazil in the World Cup.
Did the place seem clean and safe? I would only go in a private room (ensuite restroom is not necessary).
Do you visit Medellin often?

Crimsonole,

The place did seem pretty clean. Atleast the bar area was. I have been to Medellin about 5 times. I have some good Colombian friends there. The TigerPaw did seem like a small hangout for some of the local Gringo's. I was there a few months ago and stayed in the tallest building in Pablado (spell?). The hostel was on the way to and from my apartment to parque lleras. The are is nice and safe. I like the area because I do not speak a lot of Spanish and it is easy to tell a cab driver Parque Lleras and then I could walk the few blocks to my place.

Angie,

I like the quote at the bottom of your posts.
"El amor no solo es un sentimiento, es ademas, una desicion"
Similar theme is expressed by the author of the Five Love Languages.

I have heard it is a great place if you like hostels, the guys post on another board frequently and sounds like a nice cheap place in a very expensive neighborhood. Really doesnt get better than that.. Unless you have thr bucks to stay somewhere else...

Than again each experience is unique in itself.. I am debating staying out in Sabenata at a new hostel that goes from dormitories, to private rooms to suites.. Pm me if you want to check that out. More of the real colombia, the pobaldo experience is the most expensive in my book.

Good luck crim!
