We apologize for any inconvenience but a 15 minimum post count was implemented to keep Trolls, Spammers and Porn at bay. This is our only defense, and unfortunately this affects Newbies who want to advertise via posting url(s) back to their sites.
Medellin Visitor Guide, we ask you to make 15 posts in other threads and come back, if the Topic you want to post (this Thread) is that important. And we're sorry but we simply cannot open the Forum to Trolls and Spam, and change the limits for 1 or 2 members out of 1,300+. Also, if you would be kind enough to reciprocate and show our Banner on your site, we appreciate it.
Thanks Ray, I was thinking about that policy, keep it . It is a good one!
MVG, just keep bringing what you got, cause I am digging your site too! Make a few posts and teach us a little about medellin and every other place you know about!
Medellin seems to be getting some contradictory press recently. During the Inter-American Development Bank summit in March there were several mainstream media stories touting Medellin as the safest large city in South America. More off-beat sources have been reporting a steep escalation in violence. Micky and any others with firsthand knowledge, what are your opinions?
There is still the trade here and cartels, they are just smaller and smarter. They also stay out of the publics way and for the most part keep all their **** "in house". I am guessing that some extra very bad **** went down between some players, one the "Envigado group". The first week in Feb, two guys were hit (funny, it happened around the corner, about a hundred yards from my apto, about 20 min. or so after I had walked down the street on the way to DAS, two pools of blood on the street on my way back home) Anyway, this past weekend there were 15 hits. That is the kind of thing the new age mafia has avoided, it will bring heat down on them by the National Police. I am hoping that, and I believe, things will not revert to the old days. The only thing I am not sure of is the Mayor is relatively new and we shall see how he handles it. Medellin has too much to lose and I am not worried about it at this point in time, we shall see.
I think many times violent crime does not get reported.
You can’t rely on any numbers from Colombia for anything. It’s not just the purposeful deception of some reports but poor administration and record keeping. However bad the reported situation is you can bet its worse than the numbers they give you.
