Post One of the Best Times to Visit Medellin

This is one of the best times to visit Medellin since the exchange rate is a little over 2300 pesos per dollar. This is the highest rate since November 2006. I've seen the dollar sink to 1680, several years ago, at which time a lot of guys living here were considering leaving for good.

Now its time to party in Medellin!

Here's a couple examples:

Purchase an apartment for 200,000,000 pesos
Exchange Rate 1700 = $117,647.00
Exchange Rate 2300 = $86,956.00
Difference = You just saved $30,691.00

Purchase a car for 50,000,000 pesos
Exchange Rate 1700 = $29,411.00
Exchange Rate 2300 = $21,739.00
Difference = You just saved $7,672.00

Girlfriend spends 200,000 pesos (your money) a day
Exchange Rate 1700 = $117.00
Exchange Rate 2300 = $87.00
Difference = You just saved $30.00

Consider new girlfriend!

My experience has been that the best exchange rate is from your own bank via ATM withdrawl (in Colombia or any other foreign country.) Check with your bank beforehand to let them know which country you are going to visit and to see if their cards work in that country.

As far as I know, which is not all that much, what Ricardo said, the ATM is about the best you can do. Foot note - I opened an account with Citi bk just to transfer the money for the purchase of the apto. We still use the account for Dora to use for the work and materials for the apto, it is easier for me than trying to keep track of us using the same account while I am here working. But I soon as we are finished with the project the Citi account will be closed, reason they instituted a "foreign transaction fee" = 3%, way too much. So we will just use my U.S. bank that I have had for over twenty years, not good for international transfers, but the normal ATM fee is 1% and a good exchange rate. That is all.

Love - Micky
