Where the wind blows
Does the air in Medellin flow in a predominant direction? Like, North to South, or, South to North? I'd rather live where the air enters the valley, than where it exits.
Curious question. With all the frijoles that are eaten there I guess it would be best to be upwind. Wunderground has that information for you. It looks like the wind is traveling 13 km/h / 3.6 m/s from the NE (at least for today).
FWIW, I would give more consideration as to the specific barrio, safety concerns, etc., rather than wind patterns.

Where the wind blows
Thanks, Tinto
I tried to google wind patterns, but didn't find much. I was more concerned with the pollution than the methane. And air flow is just one of my considerations. I guess if I were to prioritize,
1. Safety and security
2. Good Gym, Good Food source, decent residence
3. Quiet, clean air
Any one have any recommendations? I can afford to live in a good estrata, but prefer mid range so I can blend in with the locals. At least, as far as it's possible when I'm 6'6". Looks like something in the North would help for air quality.
Have been evaluating this now for quite awhile since air quality is an important factor. It seems that distance from the Autopista and elevation from the valley basin is critical as the wind direction shifts. Los Colores, Robledo and the more central location of Laureles are my favorites in that order.
Hey Ku. Except for the quiet, Cali has some of what you are looking for. And FYI, I also wanted to live with the 'people' so we took this lower strata place. It may have been a mistake. High Class Colombians may be obnoxious, but they are quieter than the middle class. This entire holiday season has been night after night of fireworks, rumbas till 4 and the like. BUT, when that afternoon breeze kicks in, the air is magic. And there are some very nice and quiet areas of Cali, back away from the rabble. The west side and down south expecially. I found Medellin noticeably cooler but it is reported to be second only to Bogota for arts, culture and entertainment. The air didn't seem as clean as I thought it would be. We just returned from Pasto which is up at nearly 9000 feet and that mountain air was very clean. (AND quite cool.)

Re: Where the wind blows
Thank you, J_D and Sailover, for your replies.
J_D, How far up the slopes do the favelas start? Thanks for the Barrios, it gives me places to check out when I get there.
Sailover, I think I would probably prefer the cooler climate rather than a warm one. I remember reading somewhere that someone had rented a house 15 minutes outside of Cali.
