Gary Bala called, then I got my email: the US approved the fiance visa for my novia in Bogota. Exactly 3 months to the day I applied, so that time frame was correct.

Gary said expect two more months for the interview and visa. So, things are moving along. Batgirl expected in Batcave soon. Gary did a great job with the application, and continues to be a great help. Bat out.

LL, thanks. No, the batcave is dark and gloomy. Actual bedsheets on the windows for curtains. No Joke. I am waiting for batgirl to fix the joint up. It's a new house I just moved into, and I have no taste. Bachelor, you know.

I sent Gary about $1,500 for his fee, and another $400 or so for the application. I sent him a PILE of paperwork on me, and anoher PILE on my novia. He did all the rest. I just sat back and waited for my email....I signed up for instant notification on the US site.

Gary is going to to keep advising me until this is complete, so I am glad he is working with me. To me it's worth it and I'm happy.

Peace out

Bat:

Congratulations on a good start to the process. Of course, as you know, the embassy interview is the key to it all. I hope you will make plans to attend with your fiancee....not required, but I think it is preferable, especially if the relationship has not been long or there are other "red flags" that the embassy might be concerned with. The key is substantiating the validity of the relationship.

Two months is about right until the interview. We got our approval in late November, 2006 and had our interview in late January, 2007. The cut-off for interview scheduling is around the 15th of the month, so if you are close to that, you might want to use a "short-cut" to get your interview sooner. There's lot of info about the short-cut on VisaJourney.com (look for the Colombia Club thread under the "embassy" forum). Lots of info on the interview itself as well and all of the preparation that needs to be done for that. I used to post a lot and chronicled all of my experiences (my posts primarily range from November, 2006 - March, 2007).

$1,500???? Wow, that's high.....unless, of course, this includes prep for the embassy interview and completing the adjustment of status paperwork (assuming you ultimately get married). If this price does NOT include anything further, I recommend you do not pay another dime....unless money is no object. Handling the embassy interview and filing the AOS paperwork is not hard....I can help, if you need....or rely on VisaJourney.com. To me, you only need an attorney if there is some "issue" with you or her....or you get denied at the embassy interview.

To address the other question someone had....the total cost. Don't have time to look everything up now (prices have gone up since I went through the process), but here's a good sampling of what you'll need to gather (and pay for):

*Initial application for K-1/K-3 visa. (paid $190 for the I-130 and $170 for the I-129F; both now higher)
*Application for adjustment of status (once she's here and you are married, if not already). (we paid $325, but it is now close to $1,000)
*Biometrics fee (to go with adjustment of status). (paid $70, now a little higher, I believe)
*Items to include with various applications, including birth certificates, divorce decrees (if applicable), marriage license, photos, etc.
*Physical exam and lab tests for fiancee/wife. (paid $180, slightly more now)
*DAS reports and vaccinations. ($75, depending on vaccinations needed).
*$100 embassy fee for the interview.

Of course, if their is a child involved, then there are separate costs for filing for him/her. Then there are the travel costs....and costs of things she might need to get her here to the U.S.

It's expensive, but worth it if you find the right woman.

Good luck to Bat!

Griz

TBMD -

BMD very good for you and happy to hear it. If you have a female relative, with some taste, nearby, you might want to inlist some help on the bat cave. Nothing fancy but to take the edges off it, might make Batwomen feel a little better when she enters the cave for the first time. And I think that the Great Griz would be a great source for you if you have any questions. The very best of all things to you and your women, you KNOW that all your brothers here are pulling for you for all success.

Love - Micky

Hi all,

It has been awhile since I posted. I went to Brazil and have been dating a girl from Rio Grande do Sul for about 5 months. I tried to get her a tourist visa with no luck. So we decided to try for a K1 and tell the government we were getting married. Then she could come and stay and see how we interacted in my surroundings. If it did not work out, I did not have to marry, but was prepared should a miracle happen.

I filed the petition myself, it was very easy to fill out. They received the application on 10-23 and it was approved on 1-23. We still have a consulate interview to go. The bad news is I do not feel the same way about the girl anymore. We are not "clicking as well" I will not go into the reason why as I do not want to defamate her character. I just think she is rather spoiled by having a rich family and has no respect for the value of money. So I am thinking of parting ways because I do not feel comfortable at this point signing the Aff of Support. But I did get the petition approved without spending 1500.00 + 455 filing.

You go to www.visajourney.com This forum walks you through the entire process. Attorneys have no say so with USCIS, all they can do is add piece of mind. For the intital process I-129F approval, you only have to prove that you are a Citizen, you can legally marry, and you have met in the last 2 years in person. Anyone with question can PM me and I will assist if needed. I know others have posted this site, but it works, worked for me. You can talk to people who have done this all themselves without lawyers.

BTW I planning a trip to Prague to see a young lady I have been talking to over the telephone, email, and webchat for a few months. I forgot how easy it is to communicate and express feelings when your girl speaks English well. She is actually teaching me Ukranian. I do not know if you guys want a Prague, Czech Republic trip report or not after St. Valentine's Day.

Have a great weekend,

Congrats on your NOA2 approval!

MK

Its good that you found this out now and not a year later!

Just wondering, if you dont mind answering... how did she take the news, or have you discussed this with her yet?

Congrats BATDUDE !!!! Thats great!
Make sure you clean the guano up before she gets their.
GA will be contacting you to get the video rights to your wedding night.
Don't forget.. we want to hear it all.... the good and the bad.

Prague.... EEEEEEKKK !!
Nice place to visit.
I was their 6 months ago.
Watch out for those Russian imports!!!!!
Their beauty is disarming, but many are COLD
and calculating with alot more game than any LAtina.
Most of them are NOT Czech citizens and
will not be able to get an easy VISA to visit you
like CZECH citizens can.
ALSO.. BEWARE of those CZECH agencies.. they are
mostly scams with ringers on the payroll.
I just won a battle with AMEX over one of them.
