Default Colombian Visa

I was issued a Temporary Visa at the Colombian Consulate in Los Angeles that expires in March 07, I’m going to Colombia soon to make it permanent, anyone know if I can handle this business at DAS in Cali or will I need to go to Bogota? Thanks

Your best source of information on this issue should be the Colombian consulate where you received the initial visa. Try calling them first.

I have difficulty with the term making a visa permanent. Are you talking about permanent residency in Colombia?

Yes, It is my desire to seek approval for permanent residence. I have been in touch with the Colombian Consulates in Los Angeles and San Francisco (quite an accomplishment) and there best answer is that they don’t know. I have attempted to contact the Embassy in DC but have given up, I hoped that someone living in Colombia or that have gone through process would share there experience.

Do they have a website for you to read that discusses visa and resident eligibility? Most countries have categories based on relationship(marriage), critical employment, investment, retirement, etc.

Thanks guys for your kind responses, Perhaps I should have been more specific from the get go, I‘ll try. I am the father of a Colombian National and met the qualifications and was issued a “Temp. Padre National Colombiano TP” Visa at the consulate in Los Angeles. This Visa is good for 1 year. According to the Consulate my next step for residency is with DAS in Colombia. The consulate did not know if the DAS office in Cali could handle it or if I would need to go to Bogota. It would be nice if I could handle this at the DAS office in Cali and avoid a trip to Bogota. I am wondering if those living in Colombia where required to go to Bogota.

I have been told by someone who got his permanent residency that he had to go to Bogota.

I have had much success with the Colombian Consulate's Office here in Washington, DC (not the Embassy). The phone number is listed on the site:
