I'm out on the road until January 1, and I might get a week or so off before getting busy again through the end of 2007. I may or may not make the time to go traveling in LA next year, but I got the idea of getting a few Latin Euro addresses and sending off some letters to see what that might turn up.

One reason this seems like an okay option is that the order page looks more or less like it did before IMBRA, and if you click your way through like you're placing an order there is no mention of having to submit to a background check or anything like that. So it seems like a pretty painless and relatively cheap way to come up with some contacts and generate some activity while I am too busy to travel for leisure. However, I'm wondering if Latin Euro doesn't have their order page set up so that they get your money and then tell you that you have to do a background check before they will give you your addresses. I sent a couple of e-mails asking about this, but have not gotten a response yet.

Their page still says, "Place your order online, get it immediately!", but I wonder if there is an invisible asterisk there ("As long as we have your IMBRA info on file already"). I don't want to have to go through that IMBRA nonsense at all, let alone while I'm out on the road and not near my hometown.

There is some seemingly conflicting and outdated commentary about IMBRA on the LE page. Does anybody have any comments or insights on this?

Buel, that`s one hell-of-a-work schedule, and you`re a guy that recently lived three years in Brazil. Talk about withdrawel, I certainly don`t know what your responsibilites are in the US nor should I know, but if I were you, I`d cut my losses, bail out and bust a move back to SambaLand.

I can take a vacation if I want to, it just depends on my priorities. The good thing is, my job doesn't feel like work most of the time. Since I was idle and waiting for work for the entire first quarter and then some of this year, I have a little catching up and getting ahead to do. Now that I'm with a company that will keep me as busy as I want to be, I want to take advantage of that for the next year or so.

I just received this reply from Latin Euro:

"Right now we are in a law suit against the government with this
stupid law

For now there are now [italics mine] forms to fill out

you can order - just add to cart and check out

that is it

Thank you."

About the word now in italics, by the context I think he meant to write "no". So I can place an order without all of that IMBRA rigamarole. Now, do I want to...

Latineuro has a history of providing outdated addys, like TLC. That said, buy at your on risk and expect few responses.

I've used them before, and for all the bellyaching I've done, I have to admit that the response rate was pretty good. At least 50%, though I wrote to them in Portuguese, which may have helped.
