People that are arrested are given the opportunity to post a bond to ensure they will RETURN for a date with a judge. When immigration was not as tight as it is now... citizens were able to sponser immigrants from opressed countries so long as the sponser could show economic means and would guarantee they would
not become a welfare case.

What am I getting at??? Wouldn't it be nice if your novia could just walk into the embassy with you and get a tourist visa? But they WONT give it to her since she has ZERO economic reason to return. It would be a great idea if our govt. would set up a program whereby a US citizen could sponser a person for a tourist visa with the notion that the US Citizen would post a BOND with the Embassy ( in an amount the embassy would determine) that would guarantee the person return to their own country. When a bond is posted for someone who is arrested.. they Judge does not care where the money comes from.... they just want it. They could issue a conditional approval that would be finalized upon presentation of a round trip plane ticket in your novias name. With the TONS of mexicans that cross the border every day... atleast this way our Gov't can cash in on illegal immigration... thats ofcourse if your novia JUMPS BOND.... bu tthat won't happen.. RIGHT! True... the embassy might want a STUPID amount of $$ but, that is why there are bail bond companies.. which will no doubt get will into the business. Imagine a Gringo loosing his house cuz his Novia here on a "bonded" tourist VISA disappeared ! Well.... those are the risks.

Is this just a dumb idea?? or is it worth pursuing?

I like the idea Charlie. I have a friend that I still write in Peru, who isn't rich, but ain't poor and she has been trying to get a visa for a year now. I feel confidant that she would return to Peru. I think $5k is a good number! That should pay for air fare!

on the subject of writing your congressman, is there any way to email them! Do they have websites? I never have written them before!

Very interesting. It sure is frustrating having to wait so long for your WIFE to be able to come to the U.S. There just has to be a better way. This might be it. But I imagine there will still be some vetting process....I assume there is one for a tourist visa...or is there?

Vetting process? not that I am aware of.
In Peru it costs about $100 to apply for a tourist VISA which are routinely turned down. That is about 10 days pay for the average working person in Lima.. ... but then again... the average person in Peru can't get a VISA anyway, or for that matter a decent job either.

Here's what I meant by vetting process. From what I understand, to get a visa to move to the U.S. with your spouse, the foreign national needs vaccinations, a medical check, and a criminal background check...in addition to all of the information you've already provided the U.S. government with as part of the I-130 and I-129F. I assumed that the tourist visa process would require at least some type of information...so we aren't letting hard-core criminals, etc. into the country. But maybe not.

"in an amount the embassy would determine"

Try $60,000.00 and let us know how it worked out.

What I mean is deposit this in thier bank in the name of your applicant.

Thats cool with me.. but there has to be a formal procedure for this to make sure "their" bank isn't an embassy employees personal bank account.
