Default US transit visas

Hi all,

Has any one heard anything about transit visas through the US? My novia was just accepted for a Canadian tourist visa but literally all flights from Colombia to Canada require a stop in the US. Are they difficult to obtain? Do they give applicants a real hard time? My novia would also like to make a stop in Miami to visit her sister before continuing onto to Toronto. Would they make a fuss if she did this?

There is probably a way around this. Have here find a flight that stops to "refuel only" (nobody gets off) and proceeds to Canada or perhaps a non-stop flight. Check it out, you might find something.

I believe that there is a waiting area in Miami for exactly that, changing planes for another country. I tried to meet a friend on her way to Canada with a stop in Miami, but she couldn't leave the 'neutral zone' they have set up. She never officially entered the US. (like a Romulan)

Thanks Air Canada has 2 weekly flights from Bogota to Toronto direct but that's the limit. If I want her to continue onto other cities, it's virtually impossible to avoid stopping in the US. Are you sure though about even stops in the airport? It seems (particularly at Miami airport) US Customs is getting rather militant these days about travel. What about if her flight were to be delayed overnight (as it's happened to me) and she needs to stay at a Miami hotel?

Mark,

Again ask MM.

He has had an experience with this situation.

Mark, much like any other International Airport, Miami has an In-Transit lounge where travelers with no final destination can await their continuing travel. Hope that eases the stress a bit...

It would be most appreciated.
