Question

You marry her on a K1 in the US, when can she go back to Colombia?
I hear all sorts of answers on this one.
Most say 2 years, some say 5 years, some say never unless you fill out a special form etc..

And what kind of ****ing US govt logic is that? , just because she marries you in the US, she has to wait 2 years to go back to her own country for visit??????? What is the US govt trying to protect us (US citizens) from, by not letting the woman go back home for visit until 2 years?

Second question:

Ex-Pats always claim they can marry girl in Colombia and keep her happy down there.
What are these ex-pats thinking, are they marrying some kind of bimbo Colombiana???
Isn't she and her family going to think it is strange you do not bring her back to the US for awhile??

But the question is, can the Colombian girl get any kind of VISA or US citzens status by marrying a gringo in Colombia? After a certain amount of time do the Colombianas get any kind of rights? or are they still tied to the whim of the ex-pat gringo?
What kind of bimbo Colombiana would go for that deal over the long haul?

STM...interesting set of questions, and Logic and the U.S Government in the same sentence...let alone in association...is an oxymoron.

I have a friend with whom I worked with in SAm, that ended up having to get his son (born in Chile to a U.S. Citizen father) a passport for travel before the Embassy even began to move on Mom's visa and Passport. SO, I suppose you can try that approach if you have to, or want to, but it shouldn't be that difficult IMHO.

Maybe we can get Gary Bala to chime in if he has a moment to give us his thoughts...

Mr Gringos,

I cannot find the original thread on a "Gringo with a Plan", but ironically, it was really a "Colombiana with plan" !!!

But anyway , that is a slightly different topic then my Visa question.

If I remember right, you said this "Gringo With a Plan" failed.

It failed, gee, who would have ever thought...

I think the original post was lost in the hack. Maybe it's buried in another Forum.

I guess not many gringos and ex-pats have gone far enough along in the process, to even know the answer to these questions!

If you marry her on a K-1 and once you have filed for the permenant residency you should be able to return to any immigration office and get a travel visa. I did this about a year ago but you have to realize that I produced proof of a hardship.
I don't think that this is a normal proceedure. From what I remember it takes up to a year normally.
Although we had an expert working on her K-1 paper work, we went to immigration and applied for her visa on our own. Sometimes they actually act human.

Clay, K1 is the fiancee visa, correct? I am not sure, what happens with a fiancee visa if your fiancee has children? Just curious. I am not there yet.

Steve, I know the process from start to finish. Contact me offline or I can offer you my opinions here. But right now, we are implementing new registration procedures for GringoTalk.
