Default Pereira Restaurants

My favorite restaurant so far is La Estancia located over the bridge in Dos Quebradas. The owner came out to greet us all and said that the next time we visit he would personally prepare our meals. I'm not sure if he really meant that but that was a first for me. He had his culinary training in the US and his menu reflects it. The service is exceptional, food wonderful, an extensive wine list and fair prices. It is a little out of the way but well worth the little effort to visit this restaurant. A very nice place to take a date to.

Just out of curiosity, roughly how much to take a girl out to this restaurant, say she has a glass of wine and I drink lemondade or Coke.

BTW, I liekd the July latina.....looks like she has her control mechanism with men down cold!

Around 70-90 mil COP (excluding dessert) mas o menos for the two of you. They have a turf & surf combo (steak and shrimp) that is excellent.

That should have read "RESTAURANTE BAR LA ESTANCIA"

Another very good restaurant is Donde L'Italiano. As the name implies they offer cocina italiana. It is located just off of Circunvalar Ave. The Italian owner and his Colombia wife operate this family run business. Good food at reasonable prices.

Their address is:

Calle 11 No. 13-25 Los Alpes
Tel. (6) 3345925

Woo-hoo! Dennis Levy is gonna love this post.

I found an excellent all vegetarian restaurant in Pereira and thought that sharing this little comida gold mine would be well worth it for you culinary note takers. I'm not a veg-head as I enjoy certain meats but do appreciate healthy food and this little cafe has to rank up there as probably my favorite Colombian watering hole for reasons I'll mention below.

Its name is:

El Champiñon
Carrera 4 #21-57 (2nd piso)

The food is absolutely scrumptious and they serve large portions. The best part is how inexpensive one of their meals is, only 5 mil pesos. I used the word "one" purposely because like many small cafes there is just one special of the day. If you don't like what they offer that particular day you might be out of luck but more than likely your taste buds and your health will thank you if you go ahead and order. A typical lunch (they also serve breakfast) offering will probably have one choice of two styles of juice, with or without soya (maybe it's leche), a plate full of various ensaladas, soup, along with the main dish. The last time I was there it was arroz integral and some soy "puttanesca" (no not me, the dish!) that was to my delight, quiet tasty (not a big soy fan here). I also received a little cookie along with té aromáticoa to wash it all down. Huge portions for a measly 5.000 COP! (Tip not included.) Heck, they even have great customer service!

They don't use salt but have it available on your table and I think have a sea salt without that nasty fluoride to ruin your day if you ask. The two ladies that run the operation are very friendly and fittingly proud of their business. They even allowed me a closer look at their easy to view kitchen as to how clean it is. No Alzheimer inducing aluminum cookware in their cocina. They decided to go with steel cookware instead.

Last but not least, I was told by one of the owners that a lot of healthy, friendly university students visit their establishment. In fact, she introduced me to another enthusiastic client of theirs, a beautiful lady that works at a nearby bank. Supposedly we will let fate determine the next time we see each other at El Champiñon to share a meal and an English/Spanish "lesson". Gotta love it! It is so nice being back in Colombia.

Oh, BTW, this place is not the place to impress most ladies for a great view or with a fancy ambiance but if looking for something out of the Colombian ordinary by receiving a great meal in a tidy environment that definitely won't break the bank this IS the place!

¡Buen provecho!

I must need a cup of coffee SO because if there was a pun in your all too often humorous posts I missed it.

I haven't met any of the students that go there yet but if they are anything like the one hotel (not bank) employee I was introduced there then that alone would be enough reason to return, and frequently.

Oye, I've been putting off updating my Latina of the month photo. Whatchathink of this cute montage?
