Why Expat?

Too much of any one place makes me realize that which I am missing in the other. This is not just my fickle character, it is that there are so many opposites at work in living in the USA versus the DR or Colombia. I am much more productive in my business affairs while living in the USA. I enjoy living in the moment much more outside the USA (pretty obvious correlation, hugh)

Most of the guys I know living outside USA - especially non-married guys - continue to search from the right balance.

I live in Tampa, FL. The right balance to my mind is a little hear and a little there. Proximity and ease, then becomes important. I am not looking to leave one place for the other. I see a perfect mix being possible

I am wondering what motivates others and why? Lifestyle; expense; pretty women curious to meet you ... these are all reasons. There are more.

I just lived for several months in the DR, and everyday I said to myself - Damn it is expensive here. Although I have friends living happily in Colombia for 1500 - 2000 a month US dollars, I also remember blowing 200 - 300 bucks on a Friday night pretty regularly. If you take a date to a restaurant, the price is just about what you would spend in any American restaurant. So the economic reason requires you to "go local" to be compelling.

You hit on many of my thoughts, I have been enjoying spending time between Latin America, Asia and the U.S., right now in Colorado, Hard to beat a Rocky mountain high in summer but by the time there is a threat of scraping ice from a windshield, I'll return to Colombia for awhile.
