TC, You can have two left feet, but as long as you know how to move those hips with the rhythm of the music...then the girls will be more than happy to teach you how to step. Believe that!

I have said this before on this list: learning to dance is far easier than learning Spanish, and will get you just as far.

When my ex-novia first came to the States we were driving by a dance studio and she said "what's that?" I explained that it was a place where people took dance lessons. She was surprised that such a thing even existed, Colombians are dancing from the time they can walk and so it is a natural part of them.

I have used the following saying in dance and in other venues in life: "Learn the rules well enough to be able to depart from them."

I did have a Colombiana tell me "You are the first American I have seen who doesn't have 'gringo hips'." So watch out for the teacher who insists that everything must be done in an exact and precise way, etc. This kind of thought process results in a stilted look that makes you look like you are working, not having fun. When I see this, I mutter to myself "Too many dance lessons."

In no time we will probably see the Texas Cowboy School of Dance with instructions on learning to dance the Mapale, Samba and lets not forget the Brazilian favorite, the Lambada.

I know exactly what you're saying. I recall a couple of years ago in Tacna, Peru, I had the pleasure of dancing with with an amazing woman, a former town beauty queen, and her smooth, natural dancing style was nothing like what I had just before (tried to) learn when taking a series of salsa classes in Boston. I had felt so stilted and frustrated during those classes; it all seemed very difficult and unnatural for me. Anyway, I couldn't even recocgnize her moves from ones I tried to learn in class, but this latina had a natural sensuality and I just went with the flow of the music and enjoyed it, and she was impressed with me - at least, so she said!

OK, but did I make it with this woman? Sadly, no, we were probably not a long-term match anyway, but I certainly would have enjoyed a short fling with her But hopefully I've learned a few things since then besides better dancing

I know that I'm not afraid to get out on the dance floor - my only problem is I'm not one to stay out at a disco to 3 or 4 AM on a regular basis!

So very true TC! You gotta love it!

Unfortunately, all we got here in the US that would come REMOTELY close to anything like that is the lame hoochy dances you see in all the rap videos and clubs.
