Just want to remind Cali visitors (especially players) that all is not safe here and you have to play smart.

There is a black frenchman staying in my hotel (sorry I'm not a big fan of the french but this guy is much friendlier than those I've met in the past) and he picked up a woman on la avenida sexta and was drinking with her in the recepcion of the hotel. I don't understand all the details but he told me he could tell he had been drugged and went to his room immediately when he felt this.

He locked his door but not his deadbolt. Appatently this woman had some friends come to the hotel and they got a room at the hotel. He didn't wake up until the next day and found that they had stolen many of his things including his camera, passport, and $3,000 US dollars. (when will people learn that carrying large amounts of cash is nothing but stupid) Some of his things were found in another room.

He went to the hospital the next day and looked like he had just gone 12 rounds with Tyson but only got body punched. The police came to the hotel and are investigating and apparently have a few leads from the other room.

Now he is apparently broke, without a passport for which he must travel to Bogota to obtain a new one, and could have died from this drug.

Also there are two mexicans here in the hotel and one told me that the other was drugged in a strip club in Juanchito two weeks ago and they stole 600,000 pesos out of his pocket. (why carry this much money in your pocket?)

We should all take note of this and be careful and be smart when in Colombia.

This type of drugging is an old trick and the U.S. Embassy website for travel in the past had even mentioned this trick......

He picked up a gal on the 6th ave...or did she pick him up might be a better question...?

Be careful....

Cool

Hey BLove, seems you're always around when these guys get "robbered" in their hotels. Weren't you there last year when some soon to be x wife Calena apparently set up a gringo? I'm beginning to think you bring a Black Irish curse to Colombia with you. Gringos...sleep with one eye open if Brother BLove is camped nearby

Colombia is a very dangerous place, no matter how safe you feel!

Too bad this post will be lost to archive searches. Better to be under the Safety/Health Concerns topic. Great reading in there about real life...Colombian style.

For $99 a minute you can contact Ms. Cleo before your trip for an Eye in the Sky view of your upcomming adventure. Satisfaction guaranteed! Send cash to:

Cool

Sorry I haven´t replied sooner but I was very sick for 3 or 4 days must be that danged Black Irish curse again! And now I´ve moved on to Cartagena for a few days.

The hotel was Suites las Americas, one block west of Del Rio. Yes, the same owners as Del Rio but the old manager there got fired. As in Del Rio the security is limited to the door you close behind you at night. And yes you caught me I was at Del Rio last year when the inside job occured.

You guys would really be suspicious if you seen who I had dinner with last night here in Cart. 3 Italian guys invited me to join them at their table but only one spoke english. But I think the word "mafia" that I kept hearing has a similar meaning in english or spanish. I think I will pass on the pasta tonight!
