Default Got Adult Mumps.. advice please

Got Adult Mumps.. advice please

my boston doctor friend or any medical person that is a member or anyone with advice.

I was told yesterday that I might have got Adult mumps by a Doctor. He was not sure though.

The right side of my face behind my ear is smollen up bigger then a golf ball. about 5 inches across and going down to my jawbone.

I was told to take advil and the doctor put me on a prescription for DOLO LIVILEX AND ANTIFLAMATORY. I am not taking advil and just the livilex right now and pain killers.

I am in a incredible amount of pain and also on pain killers.

There is some scary stuff that I have read up about Adult mumps if that is what it is.

This is a partial write up I read below.. Donīt know if I have mumps or not.

During a mumps outbreak, diagnosing mumps is straightforward. When a mumps case is more isolated, the doctor will consider several other medical conditions that can have similar signs or symptoms as mumps, including:

Influenza (the flu)
Bacterial infection of the parotid glands
Tuberculosis
Leukemia
Hodgkin's disease
Drug reaction, including a reaction to iodine known as "iodine mumps"
Parotitis caused by other viruses
Pregnancy
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus)
Mononucleosis (mono)
Parotid gland tumor
Sarcoidosis
Cat-scratch disease
Lymphoma
Cellulitis
Diabetes
Sjogren's syndrome.

If I get dianosed with Adult Mumps.. Hhow long do I have to stay away from other people. I am teaching english and cannot afford to take time off work for being sick. I donīt like being off work.

Anything to be concered about ?

I had a sore throat since about last wednesday but when the doctor looked down by throat and made me say ahhhhhhh.. He said it looked normal.

I donīt have fever as yet either. I had bad headaches last week.

Not fun when you dont speak spanish and the doctor speaks little english. Roxi was frustrated by not being able to tell me what exactly the doctor saod.

I have to learn spanish better.

The doctor told Roxi not to kiss me till further notice and that I might not be able to get her pregnant in the future if I get bad mumps. Is this true ?

edit and added in..

Sat night before I got the mumps and during the night I had bad pains on the left side of my neck and my left shoulder. My mumps or what ever it is is on my right side. It is my saliava glands that are inflamed.

I woke up with the mumps sunday morning..

Thanks,

Jeff

I was told yesterday that I might have got Adult mumps by a Doctor. He was not sure though.

We get a lot of that here..."I think it might be..." "I'm not sure but..." That's not the way for a doctor to give you confidence that he actually knows what he is doing. I have learned to judge a doctor by his command of the English language. Here that means he has gone to private schools which is the only place someone gets a decent education here and probably studied some medicine abroad.

Finding competent medical help is one of the challenges of living off shore. This applies to medical, and optical but I have found quality dentists everywhere.

The other thing is I had diareah here for almost six months. There are a lot of germs and infections that your body needs to get used to.

The good news is you'll feel a lot better when you get over this.

I think that I would " err on the side of caution " and get a second or third opinion.

I agree with Jim, there are a lot of things one must "Acclimatize" to when you change geographical locations....

I too had it to do, living in CA.....

You are young and strong yet, and it will pass.....

Get your mind right Brother, it is just a stage of something your body will adjust to...

Just my opinion..
