El Pais ran a story about a 31 year old Calena being murdered by her ex-boyfriend. There was a ransom of $20,000 but was suffocated to death the day she was kidnapped so the plan was probably to get her American boyfriend to pay, but kill her anyway. They had a December marriage scheduled.

This really is a sad story for all involved. No wonder this girl wanted a better life. So sad...

As a side note: I'm surprised there's not more violence than there is regarding men seeking a foreign latina bride. Gringo travels to Colombia to wine and dine what either is or was the local's women, many throwing $ around like there's no tomorrow.

For those that have not read the article in El Pais, I suggest you do. Or, if you can't, copy and paste it into a translator. I believe it is a must read for all, especially some still naive about things LAm.

I will maybe say something that will shock few of you guys in here but don't you think that she was a bit stupid to go tell her money story to her ex??
I mean why did she was telling him that she was receiving money...SHOW-OFF?
I know it did not deserve to end like that but again as EC said camina con cuidado en LAM y bueno en todas partes o pais de este mundo; cono!!!

Cuba, that is a VERY good point. It is so important for gringos to maintain as low a profile as is possible and that includes their novias. She has to keep her yapper shut about any of it. (good luck with that!)

Hmmm that said.... would anyone consider it too risky to play footsie with a gal who is seperated and not divorced. I am supposed to hook up with such a gal in a few days.
