Default Booking to Colombia

www.lowfares.com/

Recently booked through this web site and was very satisfied with the results. It searches 3 sites simultaneously for low fares. recommend searching all sites listed as I observed the best listed fares changed from site to site on a daily and hourly basis.

I looked it over, wasn't that impressed. I was able to find a much better price for SpiritAirlines by using their web site. And the same was true for Avianca. It seems the airlines are holding the best prices on their own web sites.

Hey there AH, Good point to check out the websites of Avianca, etc. I'm still fuming (actually, I am pissed off) over American Airlines discontinuing their Miami-Barranquilla flight(s). In April, it was very convenient taking a flight from Sea-tac to Miami with the connection a few hours later to Miami.

I have never found one particular site to provide the best fares in all cases. I usually use a variety of sites - kayak.com, airefare.com, cheaptickets.com - as well as the web site for the airlines themselves. Sometimes the flight costs can change in an instant, which is really frustrating. So, if I'm serious about a trip, I book at soon as I can find a price I feel is reasonable. You often get burned by waiting, even a few hours. Also, if you can be flexible in the dates (even a day or two), it can make a difference. I always run my flights (when I can) for a few days before and after my optimal dates. Just some ideas based on my travels to South America, Europe, and the islands in the last few years.

Thanks for posting, It is important to cross check findings. Everytime I have checked avianca, the prices seemed high, Spirit is great for bog and cartagena, but I am now looking for deals to Cali. Will check individual airlines more in the future - your feedback is appreciated.

Bala - thanks for the tip on Avianca sale.

For the quickest checking on the most airlines at one time, I use kayak.com Unfortunately, American Airlines (which has a lot of flights to South America) just discontinued making their info available to Kayak.

But I do a lot of international travel around the world and Kayak has been very helpful. But it also helps to know the low cost carriers in each country because often these smaller airlines do not get covered by the major agencies like Expedia and Travelocity.

For travel inside Colombia, these are all the airline companiessorry I can't post links yet, just add www and dot com at the beginning and end)
Aerolinea De Antioquia (ADA) ada-aero
Aero Republica aerorepublica
Aires aires.aero
Avianca avianca
Satena satena

I used Herbert from American Travel for my last trip. He was a Bogota Bob referral. Has anyone else gone the way of a trusted travel agenct? I find the myriad of online options makes my head spin. As was mentioned, fares can change from hour to hour.

Jook, if that's the guy in Miami, I used him several times 7 or so years ago and he was always straight up. Being that I'd rather get a cold water enema followed by having inverted pine cones shoved up my azz than to fly thru Miami, I can recommend him.

BogotaBob is a friend of mine and I didn't know he recommended Herbert. I can too.

I'd pay extra to fly Atlanta direct to anydamnwhere in the world. Being from JC, I don't know your options whether Newark or NYC.

Check all your options recommended on the Board and search the archives. I have CC miles so don't buy tickets anymore. If you don't have a CC with miles, check into it.

There is no magic bullet for finding the best rates. It's usually being in the right place at the right time. I've found booking late at night got me better rates when I used to pay for airfare.

Good luck!
