Honk, same guy.

One of my problems with all the search sites, i.e., Kayak, expedia, etc. etc. ad nauseum, is for some reason, I rarely get a flight that's less than 12 hours with one connection. They all have me waiting in Miami or somewhere else endlessly for my connection. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I find these sites next to useless for this reason. Btw, I travel from Newark to Medellin. The NYC airports are a hassle and Newark is only 15 minutes away.

[Speaking of Bob, have you communicated with him since he sold the business? He's a great guy and helped me out in more ways than you can imagine. Then he seemed to disappear with the sale of his business. He had promised to help me with my fiance visa even though he was "retired," but I never heard anything. Anyhow, I realized the fiance visa is no big deal to do on your own. I hope he's okay.]

Jook, I think Charlie gave you your best bet unless using NYC just isn't worth it. I'd rather fly direct, even if it costs more, than to have a layover anywhere, especially where there's an airline switch and I don't have control of my luggage. Lost luggage is not a good thing...been there. I'm in Cali, luggage in Mimai...for 3 days

I fly Delta direct to LAm. I know all airlines have their problems, but I've never had one with Delta...yet. I've gotten the best deals going thru their website and checking it regularly until late. When I feel it's as low as it will go, I book it.

Bob and I keep in pretty good touch. Spent a day with him and his family in June while on a motorcycle trip. Really good people!! I just wished my friend and I had more time. There's always next time I'll have to remember the old expression "Fish and visitors stink after 3 days!"

I might just do Delta and JFK. The plus is I'll get the biggest hassle over with first... getting to JFK. I still need to figure out what the heck to do with my car since I have alternate side parking where I live and driving to JFK brings shivers down my spine. Ah, the hassles of life. -) But seriously, thanks Charlie.

I never leave from JFK, always Newark. JFK is a big hassle. I am only now considering it since it may be the lesser of evils.

To me a direct flight is worth its weight in gold. Less waiting, less hassle and the odds of your bags getting lost are greatly reduced.

There are also many other airlines which are providing cheap fare rates. You can check out cheapflights.co.uk for the best cheapest rates. I usually like to travel through it.
