Default Medellin and more in February, help!

A BIG BIG hello to everyone, long time.

I'm in the planning stages of a February trip and I'm getting dizzy thinking about the arrangements. So, help! If it's economically feasible, what I'd like to do is:

1. Fly from Newark, NJ (EWR) to Fort Lauderdale to visit my folks for a day or 2. It seems like Jet Blue is the way to go.

2. Fly from FLL to MDE to see my one and only. It looks like Spirit has a lock on great fares.

3. POSSIBLY take a side trip from MDE to Cartagena. Sorry Micky, I get bored in Medellin -). However, fares seem to be in the $300+ range per person, at least that's all I can find. If that's the case, that's out.

4. If Cartagena is do-able, then I would fly back to EWR and my gal would go back to MDE. How would I go from CTE to EWR?

Recommendations for hotels in Medellin? I stayed at the Dann Carlton twice and am don't wanna stay there again. I want to spend less than $100/night.

Recommendations for side trips other than Caragena? I'm thinking beach but I'm open.

thank you thank you.

I'm no expert on flights within Colombia, but I've heard it's much more expensive to book them from outside Colombia with a foreign credit card. Have your novia check out prices from her end.

Spirit flies Cartagena to Ft Lauderdale ... shouldn't be any problem getting a cheap flight to New Jersey from there.

Things to do in Cartagena ... I love wandering around the old city, el Castillo de San Felipe is definitely worth a visit, Playa Blanca is a nice day trip to the beach. If you go to Playa Blanca, whatever you do, DON'T take the larger boats (named Alcatraz) ... you'll spend 80% of your day on the boat. Take one of the smaller, faster lanchas.

Parque Simon Bolivar in the old city is a great place to hang out during the day to escape the heat and people watch. Cafe del Mar is a really nice place to have a couple drinks at sunset, and you can dance later on that night. It's got a great view from on top of the wall.

Here's some other ideas: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...gena-BR-1.html

Have a great trip,

Whitey

Jook,

The link below is dated but I think Avianca is still offering an air pass to foreigners. If you will be flying within Colombia to visit a couple/few cities this will save you some of those hard earned diminishing value dollars.

I'd look at Avianca's web site and give them a call after reviewing the link as there are restrictions.

Check the aires site, you can do most round trips in colombia for under $100 bucks, it is just that they arent all directs, sometime you go to some smalll out of the way areas.. I have used them and am flying to cartegena from bogota for $100 in a few weeks, you can book here in the states.. Bogota has the best direct flights.

All in spanish..

Jook -

There is a Holiday Inn up in Poblado, last time someone I know stayed there, I believe it was $85 a night, modern, clean, internet, mini-suite kind of set up. On Poblado ave (Cr 43) two blocks south of the Dan C. The bus to Cartagena from Medellin is approx. $45 and about 14 hours. Also if you are here for a least a week think about renting an furnished apt. Both CK and LL rented one last time here, if you think that is an option we can send you the link.

Love - Micky
