Default Cali-and back. By bus!

We are just returning from something I didn't think I would do again. The last time was 14 years ago, but what the hell, right? We took busses from Cali to Bogota, on to Medellin and then to Cartagena including two all nighters. I had planned to cheat and fly back to Cali, but my woman got her bag stolen along the way with all of her papers. You can't get anything, including anywhere near an airliner, without papers so we bussed it back too. All in all not that bad a trip. The only real hassle was the cold. They run those big busses so freaking cold. I figure it must be to keep the natives quiet and keep the vomit factor down. It is quite uncomfortable. But the huge payback is passing through some of the most incredible scenery you could imagine. Coffee country-Pereira, Armenia to Ibague is stunning as is the trip from Bogota down the mountain to Valleta and into Medellin. We spent a few days in each place. Cartagena is my favorite, but Medellin was pretty good too. Actually, Bogota wasn't all that bad. Several horror movies too. Any questions, ask away!

The bus from Cali to Bogota broke down, shocker, and while we waited (4 HOURS) by the side of the road, someone used the cover of the OTHER buses that were passing both right and left of ours and blocking it from sight to sneak back on and snatch her bag. Then the kid, (we figured out later it was him) told the driver he had to get to Bogota by 9PM because he was shipping out with the Air Force. I can still see him running from bus to bus begging to get on. Now I know why. People have told us it was a good thing we didn't know and try to confront him as if was desperate, he could have gotten violent and we were by ourselves in the middle of no where. The horror stories were reference to the movies that they show. Either Hard to Kill 7 or Texas Chainsaw 11. Great fare, especially for the kids, who watched in awe. I thought I would never ride a night bus again, but there was enough traffic, (and I was so freaking cold) that I didn't worry.

We stayed in a lovely place which was apparently also a notel motel as everyone else paid half of what we did, but left after only about 4 hours. What could they have been doing? Only 15,000 pesos though. And the flea bites have healed now.
Scotty, I've got to have more power!

Sounds like a great road trip Sail! For once I wish you were GA, not SuperMary You couldn't give me too much detail on what that trip was like.

Captain, it will take a minimum of three weeks at a Star Base!

Scotty, we have 3 minutes...

I canno change the laws of physics!

As far as trip details, they are tame due to my not being alone. Perhaps the next time, since I now know the way.
