Default Medellin lo mejor

I am not sure exactly what got into me about 2 weeks ago, but I just needed to blow off some steam and get the heck out of DODGE! Over the pass couple of years I have made some friends online and I have traveled quite a bit to Colombia. So off I go again!

I never had much interest in Medellin, but there is this gal that I have had a great time just chatting with, we started off just chatting and ended up she was even trying to set me up with her friends. I have known this gal for about 6 months but only from chat. Well she said the magic words a couple of weeks ago. She just said, hey have you ever heard of the “Fiera de los Flores”? I said yes, and than she just invited me to come and hang out with her.

Ok no big deal, well for me it was very cool because there was no sign of any ulterior motives accept hey come and have some fun! Well that was just what the Dr. ORDERED for LL!

So off I went for 6 day venture and than some. I arrived late Friday nite in Medellin, she was at the airport waiting for me an Orchid and a lei ( I think that is what they are called ya know those flower necklaces you get in Hawaii) BTW I should know I was born in Hawaii. Hahahah!

Well this was a very nice welcoming. Of course again I will mention how awesome it is to arrive at an airport in another country and see all the family and friends and novios waiting for their loved ones! Always puts a big smile on my face and fills my heart! Oh yaa and she looked great. She is definitely paisa, white skin, big clear blue eyes and lips you just want to dive into! Well off to the hotel, I stayed at the PARK 10 Hotel, very close to Parke Lleras! I will post a hotel report later in the hotel section

One more thing I would like to share about this trip before I go on and on and this is very hard to describe, but do any of you feel, like when you land in some new territory you feel more at home there than you do at your own home in your own country?

Its kinda like you take that first breath of new unventured territory air and it fills you up like you haven’t been filled up before. You stand up a little straighter and your head feels more balanced on your body than before. All you insecurities seam to just disappear. Well that about the best I can do to describe it.

Well all went well, the trip was long and I slept like a baby. First day out we went to see the parade “carros classicos & viejos”! I am gonna post some pics and than I will continue on with my trip report! I hope you enjoy the sites! Who said the USA hasn’t had an impact on Colombia for years and years! Oh yaa and a couple of pics of the most enchanting paisas en carros!

Hey anyone know how to just post the pics from this site? Tonk where are you my pic posting geniuous????

Hot damm LL, I was wondering where you've been Your pics run the entire spectrum from classic Am. cars, jail bait beauties, to a vintage PanHead Harley.

You've learned a little secret about LAm travel...go when there's a festival or holilday. It will bring out all sorts of eye pleasing beauties.

..about the pics. You did a pretty good job! I don't know how to shrink them to fit the GT page. My boy said mine are fine even though I have to scroll to see the entire pic. He calls me strange with the way I have my fonts set

Any Gringo who pecks out a trip report with pics is in my eyes! Good job my young Jedi!!!

Ooops, I forgot to tell you about Friday nite, we did end up at some bar in Parke Lleras for a drink and a quick bite. Now what a place that is. Loaded with bars, discotecs, and restaraunts and just overall beautiful people! I am gonna see if I can have J send me the names of some of these places, because I just suck at remembering them.

The place we ended up at was brand new, it had a restarunt on the ground floor a, discotec in the second and a cool ass lounge on the top, with a motorized roof that opens up to that fresh Medellin air. Actually the pollution was not that bad, I have heard it is terrible there, but I did not notice, there was a nice 1 hour rain daily keeping it fresh while I was there. Met a couple of gringos there, one from Miami and one from Denmark. The guy from denmark was pretty cool and the miama guy too.

The denmark guy had been living there for a year. I asked him how he did it and he said he just saved and saved, he wanted a lot of dental work done, and he just had laser eye surgery, he said he probably had saved almost 20k in costs and that was what was paying for the trip! More on Parke Lleras later. But it is expensive and it is loaded with gringos, not really my style but a beautiful place I loved it for what it is!

Saturday about 9 am, my girl J picks me up at the hotel, she is looking sooo good. Hmm this friend thing I might have to reconsider. Today she brought her daughter with us to hang out, we are planning on going to breakfast and than off to the car show.

BTW, she has this great taxi driver, who pretty much took care of me the whole trip. Speaks only Spanish and if any of you are cool with that let me know I can pm you his number. So off to Las Palmas, an area above the Poblado barrio for breakfast / lunch. Cool spot, with really great views of Medellin, I cant remember the restaurant name, but it was nice, food was good and for 4 of us it cost me about $40 bucks! I definitely recommend that area for a nice romantic night. I noticed about 5 restaraunts there, oh yaa and one strip club!

I don’t necessarily recommend the strip club for a romantic night, unless your date is already inside when you get there!

I told F. to come and eat with us, F is the cab man! So we sat down and started chattin it up, I think J my girl, was not expecting me to invite F, to eat with us, but he was cool enough to wait for us quite a few times with out charging us for his waiting time. Plus I always enjoy chattin with the Colombianos almost as much as Colombianas.

Ok so off to the car show, I love these things, old cars , motos, women, festivals, holidays! So we head down to the poblado district to watch, it seams the cars haven’t made it that far yet. So off we go in taxi to Belen district, to see if we can catch the beginning of it.

So as we start getting closer the people seam to be taking over the streets and you can smell the festivities in the air. Well all of a sudden the traffic get thick and I start getting excited, so I hand F. some cab fare and grab J and her daughter and start a running towards the parade. All I can hear is that sweet sound of V-twins polluting the air of Medellin.

Side note; I think it is just fantastic that these Colombianas can run in 3 inch heels! Haaha!

Anyways, at this point J has figured out that I am on a mission and she is just lovin the fact that I am all excited. One thing I know and love about colombianas is that they love to see their men happy! It makes them happy! What a concept, who would have guessed!!

Well I am starting to get glimpse of the show and the roar of motos blazing in the streets! As we approach I see about 40 bikes pass and realize that that is the end of the bike show! URGGGGGGGGGGHHH! Bikes are much more my style, and I get disappointed, but WTF, I aint gonna stay that way. At this point I have forgotten I have my camera in my pocket, and don’t get any good moto shots. Sorry TONKSTER! But than a truckload of Paisas come by dancing on a flat bed and my spirits soar again! (not the youngens I posted, I missed another great foto shot or 300 of the gals). It took about 10 minutes to realize I had my camera. Mostly because my jaw was stuck to the pavement!

Apparently this year the flower parade is on this upcoming Saturday, different from usual, so I only get to enjoy the car parade, but let me tell you the streets were lined with people for about 3 miles. There are Paisas everywhere. It is hard to not stare at them, I am trying to be cool but it is hard. So me and J’s daughter are having fun , I give her my camera and put her up on my shoulders, so we can get some cool shots. Well we enjoyed the parade for about an hour & ½. Than we decide to go to a parke for kids and we head over to Sabeneta a little mucipality right outside of Medellin proper in the north! Nice parke where they have Canopy rides, rock climbing, and lots of cool **** for the kids!

Well, I have been having a good time so far, but the jet lag start to kick in on me, I buy some tickets for J & her daughter to take some of the rides and climb the wall and fly on the canopy wire, cost about $30 FOR 6 RIDES seams a little high to me, but I am not gonna trip. So let me tell you now, they wouldn’t let me on because, you have to be under a certain weight. I way about 185lbs! I guess it is for the kids, but J seamed to clear the weight requierement with ease! Well Ok, so I will take some pics!

J’s daughter is just a nut! She is all in to the extreme sports! I enjoy watching them, but start to get tired. Well J shows up and apparently they want me to buy some more tickets, and I am like, well dear if you want to go, than go ahead, but buy your own tickets! First test hmmm? So she did!

Well apparently I passed or she passed not sure who, but she never acted like she expected me to pay for something after that again. Now don’t go thinking I am cheap, I spent plenty of money on this trip as a matter of fact, I really felt like my dollar was in the giant ****hole of suction and the Colombian peso was kicken our amercian dollars ass!

Thanks Mickster! I am having fun doing this one. Sabeneta is a cool area, from what I was told it is a very sana barrio. I liked it a lot. If you are considering living there and get into that neighborhood, I think you would be happy! I was already considering that neighborhood for my own second home! They have their own nightlife with more local style living, but from what I was told it is also a desirable neighborhood, so not sure how much houses or apartments cost there. FYI it is a good 30 minutes from downtown without traffic, but add an hour in traffic. Although the metro in Medellin is great and it gets all the way to the border of Sabenta, the last stop is Itagui!

Tonk, yaa I wish I had gotten those picks of those bikes. And by the way I am age blind! I can't tell with these gals if they are 16 or 26! But hey I wasn't the only one getting pics!

Azjet you would love Medellin by the way. I read in one of your posts about women from Bogota being educated, well I think there are plenty of them in Medellin, it is a very modern city for latin america! When are we going to get that drink my friend? I say we need a gringo tour to medellin.

I will be able to make firm plans after this next bid line. In fact, Ill just PM you...
