Cool

Just returned the middle of July from a trip to San Andres. I went for a week, with the girl I met on my first trip to Cali, at Norms place in April. San Andres is beautiful and very romantic. It is the perfect place to take the girl you are serious with, and spend some quality time together. I stayes at a small hotel named Coco Plum. The manager and Helga, who is in charge of e-mail quests, bent over backwards to please us. Helga took us to town, showed us the atm sites, best stores and all the sites for free. The Hotel is on a small private beach, and after 5pm there is no one there and it was as if we had the beach to our selfs. During the day, there is a place just down the beach, which rents all the beach and ocean toys. We paid only $29 a night per person which included breakfast and dinner. They also set up a private dinner on our last evening there. We had a private table with candle lights and flowers, right on the beach. For this extra, they only charged for the bottle of champagne. My Novia had a chance to drive a golf cart around the island. It is a two and a half hour ride. She had never driven, so it was a fun excursion for her. There are many things to do in San Andres. There is the cave of Captain Morgan; the blow hole, which shoots up water similiar to a geyser; a few small party islands that are open 11-4, where you can have lunch, drink, enjoy the beaches and rent many ocean toys;
several casinos and night clubs; and a ride on a glass bottem boat out to the reefs. I am sure there are many other activities also, which I had no time to check out. The prices in the stores are also very cheap compared to Cali. We bought many gifts for my novias family while there. It was an incredible vacation that I will remember the rest of my life. The majority of the people on the island speak both English and Spanish. The island was a English colony in the past, and the people think of themselves as different than the Colombian mainlanders. I proposed the last night on the beach, at dinner, and am now engaged. I hope to get married in Cali in Nov. or Dec.. If any one has questions about San Andres, I would be happy to talk to you. My e-mail is srfman25@home.com. After returning to Cali, I spent time with her family and felt very welcome. The people of Cali are very friendly and warm. We had a birthday party for my prometida the last day in Cali, at her family's casa. I feel as though I am already part of the family.

WOW Congradulations sfrman,
Sounds like you both had an idylic vacation.
One word of caution. Luz Amparo from Latin Best told me to be careful planning a wedding in December because evidently the US Embassy in Bogota closes down between Dec 15 till Jan 15 approx. so that the American personel can go home for the holidays. Might be worth a phone call to embassy to make sure.
Buena suerta to you and your intended,
Fred

Fred is right. I went thru this around Dec-Jan. Plan around it. In Colombia, anything that can go wrong..will go wrong. Allow extra time for everything.

Good report

Cool

I don't know anything about Cartagena or San Andres.

I do know that there are more trip reports on this board in the typical month than there are on LWL in the typical year.

Thanks for the reports, Gringos!

Jeff
