Another board member had inquired about a source for Colombian Slang...I've always found this to be pretty interesting reading...and it helps give you some immersion as to the different meanings in different countries of "slang words"...and yes, you'll learn what to call "that" there, so you won't be completely out in the cold when you get there! Here's the link to PoorButHappy, and the slang link is on the left in brown lettering about half way down the page:

Thanks for the idea SunnyA!

I see El Capitan posted this thread way back when I would like to see it revived!

I have learned lots of different words and phrases but I really want to learn some more. Idiomas you know those sayings that ANGIE and TOnk were talking abvout a few months ago! I can;t find that thread!

What brings it up is I would like to be able to take my spanish to a level of a commuinication of what I want to communicate and not be held back by the structure of a language.

I said to a gal , tu eres mi fuego artificiale!! jajja She didn't get it , I wanted to say you are a firecracker! You know the type high energy does things with a bang! I was dissapointed because I can't express myself like I would in english yet! I am still miles behind that!

ANy hints or any good new idiomas phrases out there??

LL -

My hands shake and palms sweat on the keyboard everytime I make ANY comment about the language, because I really suck. So I will ask Angie (or LG) to say if this is true or not. When we use ya, it is mostly when Junior is playing around and not doing what he was asked. As in english we would say, enough!, or now!. We use ya in that way, Ya! (junior, stop what you are doing, now!, and do what you were told). Unless this is confirmed by a REAL speaker DISREGARD!!!!!!

Love - Micky

Sounds like "enough already"" Where angie??

But it sounds right to me. My problem with spanish is I sometimes use things improperly and if noone tells me I master using it imporperly, and that sucks!

LL,

Todavia = still.
Estoy aprendido espanol todavia.

Depending on structure aun can also mean still

Ya = already or now.
Ya que = Now that
Ya esta la comida = the food is ready now
Ya voy = I am coming already.

I am still working on using aun and aunque.
