Default Google Translator

There is this little add on in google, that help to translates like a sentence or 2, or words but not much more. It is one of those homepage add ons.

I would recomend it for people who already have at least the basics for spanish.

I rarely need to translate any letters or msn chats anymore, but sometiems I need to look up a word or 2 or figure out a complex verb conjugation. And surprisingly enough that little google gadget is pretty accurate, even when tranlating a sentence with multiple conjugations and prepositions!

Last thing you want is to misinterpret a conjugation, because than you don't know who they are talking about..

OK, I'm a lamer ... can you help me out?

I can find the Google toolbar button that translates English to Spanish, but I can't find one that will hover over a Spanish word and translate to English.

Thanks ... Whitey

If you have google as your homepage, than go to your right handside of the screen and where it says add stuff.. Just search google translater. It does about 15 languages, both ways!

Now I don't know nothing about hovering over and changing the word!!

Here is the exact link to add the translator feature to your Google toolbar. It translates words into the language of your choice merely by placing your mouse cursor over the word. Enjoy compadres.

TheWix ... thanks ... close but not exactly what I was hoping for ... casi ...

Tinto ... have you tried using the translator from your link? I found that page before, but when I went to drag the Spanish button on to my toolbar, nothing (good) happened. It looks to me like these other languages have just been sketched into the page and aren't functioning yet?

Whitey,

It works well for me. It actually translates both ways for me (either Spanish and/or English). It is a great little feature! Is yours enabled?

The Google Translator Last Lion is referring to is actually pretty good, but they all have their flaws. There's absolutely no way to accurately translate every idea you have in English into Spanish using a translator. I don't care how good someone tells you it is. LL is absolutely right. For a word or two it's okay, but other than that, horrible. My Spanish has gotten pretty damn good in the last 6 months, and I'm still learning. Sometimes I'll go to translation.com just to see how it will translate an English phrase I already know how to say in Spanish. I'd say it's right on about 20% of the time, close enough for a native Spanish speaker to understand 50% of the time, and completely wrong the other 30%.

I won't bore everyone with how our conversation led up to this question, but I was on the phone with my girl once and she asked me,

"Cuando has hablado con tu novia pasada?"

For those of you that don't understand that I'll save you a trip to your Google translator. She was basically asking me had I spoke with my ex. I'm still at the stage in learning where you listen to Spanish and then translate it into English in you mind; so I thought she was saying,

When was the last time you spoke with your girlfriend?

I know, I know...kind of a stupid assumption considering she is my girlfriend. But she plays little games like that with me, referring to herself in the third person and stuff like that. At first I asked her why she would ask me that. She replied with a very angry tone...

"Porque quiero saber!!!!"

So without thinking my dumb ass replies...

"Ayer!"

So yeah, took about 3 days, several phone calls to her friends, and countless emails to get her to talk to me again. Just a little story I thought I'd share with anyone who's ever struggled with trying to become fluent in Spanish. But please...no matter what....don't depend on the translators. They'll make you sound like a complete idiot almost every time.
