Ah, and don't forget one of Portugal's finest exports...Mateus Rose. Love it!

Bueller,

Which CD ROM company do you recommend to learn Spanish? Rosetta Stone? I need to learn and would rather do it on my schedule instead of taking a class....

thanks

Dude, you gotta get a ....pimsleur! Get all dozen discs and you will learn Spanish...that's how I did it. In my car, in my living room on my stereo, I went thru them again and again. Now I can have a conversation with a chica.

I agree with Batman here. After starting this thread by talking up a $10 CD-ROM program, I finally gave in and bought the French Pimsleur I program for about $150. You just can't beat Pimsleur's methodology. I now realize that I would have been chasing my tail with the $10 program because of the way that French pronunciation changes according to sentence structure. I recommend Pimsleur over Rosetta Stone because you can do it while driving, exercising etc. instead of having to sit down at the computer and devote extra time to it.

Ciza,

I guess this thread can come back to life at least momentarily. I have heard of Platiquemos and I have traded emails with Don Casteel the guy who put is all together. It's basically a revamped version of the course that was used by the Foreign Service Institute and Don Casteel retired from the foreign service. It is a very intensive program that takes a lot of time to finish but very expensive if you get all the bonded material and CD's. It is offered in different formats. I have 1 DVD with the whole program including the music and the slang.

I found something I liked better at Fluenz.com, they have a different philosophy when it comes to language learning that is more to the point with me.

Airto,
Does Fluenz.com take you as far and as thorough as platiquemos?

My biggest problem is still understanding what others are saying.

Ciza,

I didn't go through the whole Platiquemos program, I got bored in level one. I don't believe the two can be compared because they are very different. Platiquemos still has the old feeling to it and Fluenz is 21 century. I would say that Platiquemos appears more thorough (in the amount of information) but Fluenz will get you understanding and speaking faster. If you go to Fluenz.com there is a demo available of one of their workouts under Spanish. You can download it and try it out.

I think dedication is what it takes, plus watching the old 3 stooges in Spanish on the TV....
