Default Latin Music Appreciation Society

Here's the deal with this thread...

...Since Latin music has always been one of my favorites - for both enjoyment, and learning the language (be it Spanish, or Portugeuse), I thought starting a thread to share our diversity in music might help a fellow Gringo 1) Appreciate the LAm musical scene, 2) Help learn a new language by enjoying the artistry that goes with it, 3) Give you something to discuss when looking around for Ms. Right.

There is only one thing a girl likes better than the music of her favorite artist...and that's DANCING to it!!!

With the advent of "YouTube", now you not only get to listen to the music, but you get to see the video that goes along with it...meaning youget to see the artistry and scenery to go along with it.

So here you go...I'll start it off with a few of my favorites...and next time you speak with "mi corazon", tell her about the song you listened to....bump up the volume, and get with the beat guy's!!!

Ricardo Arjona - "Dime que no"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wYyzwQIPt0

Chayanne - "Y Tu Te Vas"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzrimmcqcu0

...and one more for fun that was the hit of the summer back in '02...not that any of the words really make much sense, but it's an example of you just need a good beat and not much reason to have fun and dance in LAm...

Las Ketchup - "Asere Je" (in LAm "ketchup" is pronounced "keptchu"...so you call this group "Las Keptchu" to be phonetically correct...las hijas "Del Tomate"

You can Create your own radio station at yahoo.com/launchcast, you can put in your preferences which would include Latin. This has introduced me to a lot of artists I would otherwise not have heard: Alex Ubago, Julieta Venegas, Alejandro Sanz, Laura Pausini, Fonseca, etc.

I absolutely LOVE launchcast.

...since we don't have much in the way of added material, I suppose we have to shake the guy's up a bit!!! So, since you need some stirrin', check out Paulina Pausini -

...and this one should get a few of you overheated...and possibly on a SouthBound flight!!!

...and we'll finish off with something a little more sublime...

Thumbs up Re: Latin Music Appreciation Society

I can listen to most any Latin music except Rap. I enjoy "Taxi Music" and the traditional music you might hear in the better LAm restaurants.

Hands down favorite for me is the Mexican rock band Mana. I've yet to meet the latina that didn't really like the band, they're my favorite band period. I was turned on to them back in Bogota '99. It took me awhile to realize they were much more than a Mexican mariachi band on a Tijuana street corner.

I had 8th row dead center seats Oct. '03 in Atlanta. I have almost as good seats for them next March. I pull up to any 10 Latina in Atlanta in my 10 year old Cobra and ask her if she'd like to see Mana. Same chica has a dude 20 years my jr. in a Lambo ask if she wants to go to the Havana Club and blow $10k afterwards...guess who will score?

Highly recommended CD's are:

"Amar es Combatir" - their newest. If you don't like this CD, you won't like the group.
"Donde Jugaran los Ninos" 1st CD I bought in Bogota
"Revolucion de Amor"
"Mana Unplugged"

This Grammy Award winning group is the most popular Latin rock band in the world. There's a reason for it. This band kicks ass! No English crossover BS here. Just pure Latin rock!

Word of caution! When back at your hotel, leave your salsa music back at the club unless you want your lady dancing vertically as opposed to...

Don't know about the youtube link stuff

I don't know where you're at this morning Tonk, but here's one to start the day off right!!

Here's a little Mana Medley...for those of you that aren't familiar with this group, what Tonk say's is all too true...the way to a girls heart is through her ears...hence, Mana accomplishes this like no other,,,except Luis Miguel, but that's a story for another day.

Here's Mana Live -

Cap'n:

It's Paulina RUBIO, and LAURA Pausini. Normally I would let a mistake like this pass, but Laura is my ex-novia, as well as Julieta Venegas, as well as Salma Hayek...

Jajajajaja....Damn Snoop, we do have something in common...how do you think Paulina ended up being available...I called her Laura one night, and that was that!!!

I was watching both of their videos last night, and the rest is history. But, that being said, Paulina Rubio has got it going on!!! Seriously risque video material IMHO.

Thanks Snoop....
