Question

Gentlemen,

I'm researching for the complete Pimsleur 1,2 and 3 comprehensive CD package. Are there any differences between the two links? These packages are not cheap but $400.00 sounds like a fair price.

Thanks!

The second link is for audiochip format, not CD. The content (45 hours total) is the same. Looks like they give you the player for free with purchase.

The CDs are much more versatile than the audiofy chips. The CDs are downloadable and allow you to use them on an MP3 player, CD player, or computer. The audiochips require a special player for the course.

Thumbs up

Welcome aboard Doug!

The best place to learn Portuguese in Rio, is without a doubt, the University at PUC-RIO.

Ibeu and Puc have an affilation program with the University of Florida.

The Portuguese spoken in Rio definitely has it's tone. My suggestion is to learn the Portuguese of the woman you want to date. The Portuguese from the North of Brazil is very different from the middle and southern parts. Accents are VERY important to Brazilians. Good luck to you guys!

Brazilian Portugeuse, not to be confused with Continental Portugeuse (Portugal). Same language throughout the country, but quite different throughout Brasil as to the intonations, inflections, and emphasis.

If you mean what regional variation, related to LingoShop's post, don't worry about that. As a beginner, you won't speak it well enough at the outset for it to make any difference; and as a gringo, just speaking Portuguese at all will score you all kinds of points. One thing you may notice about the carioca variety (around the city of RdJ) is there is more of a tendency to pronounce "s" as "sh".
