Question

"que'ubo"

I remember when I traveled many times to Bogota I heard this phrase between familiar friends. I don't remember exactly how it translates or what it is short for. I think it means basically "howdy" and may be short for "que hay hubo". I haven't heard it that much in Cali for some reason. just curious about this familiar salutation. anyone heard this phrase very often?

"Que hubo?" means roughly "What's up?" or "How's it going?"

It's a common greeting.

Some other common greetings include "Que hay de nuevo?" and "Que cuentas?" and "Como te va?" (among others).

They'll deny it, but I've often heard Colombians pronounce the phrase as if it were spelled (in Spanish) "quibo."
