I'm thinking of calling Vonage about their $25.99 month unlimited world calling offer.
My wife spends about $50 per month on calls to Cali. I use my line for incoming and outgoing faxes also.

I spend about $100 per month on the line I have between long distance, and phone company charges.

Anyone have any experience or suggestions they'd be willing to share?

The unlimited world is ONLY for calling landlines. If you call a cell phone, it will cost you $$$ to call.

Go with minumerolocal.com sign up for the plan that gives a US phone number to call that forwards to a colombian number.

There are also cheap calling cards such as mobilecaller.com

And vonage rips you off in fees. If you are going for a VoIP service, go with broadvoice.com

I'll plan to check on the service you suggested.
I'm going to call on Monday so I can talk to someone in English hopefully to get all the details of their plans, aka contracts.

If I do sign up I'd be happy to use you as a referral if you get any credit.

I'm paying .09cents a minute now with IDT from our land line. Their posted rate, I assume with a plan is .02cents a minute.
It would be nice to save $30 or $40 per month.

I called that telephone company you recommended again today, but the gal I spoke to briefly wasn't very helpful-maybe if I spoke Espanol...

I googled international long distance, and got Rebtel. They're rate is a little higher at .029 per minute to Cali, and they don't have a local number. I do have unlimited long distance here in the U.S. so that long distance charge shouldn't be a problem.

I was paying .09 cents a minute, so I hope this works out.

I use Vonage extensively or at least my wife does calling Bogota several times a day. It does not work perfect for sure.... it works as good as your internet connection. Having said that we are thrilled with the service. My wife even does three way calls with her brother in Canada and her sister in Miami and connects everyone to Bogota. If you want more info let me know. Also, I am interested in Big e's suggestion???

I ended up saving about $30 a month on my international long distance.
I'm using www.rebtel.com

They offer a free 5 minute test call that I appreciated to try out their service.
The calls from a landline here in Oregon to a land line in Cali are .029 per minute.
So far so good. The call qualitie's good, and no problems with connections.

She dials a local number that is an in state long distance call to connect with her mother. I have unlimited in state call coverage, so that doesn't cost me anything extra.

Now a 1 hour call from my wife to her mother costs me about $1.80 instead of $5.40.
That's a big savings that makes me happy.
