Default Vonage & iPhone

If you need your arm twisted a bit to plunk down the dough for an iPhone (like I did), Vonage now has an app for the iPhone and the rates from the US to Colombia are very competitive. Quality wasn't distinguishable from the prepaid account that I have (Enjoy ppd).

In addition, I just discovered a nifty app, AppBox Pro, that has a currency converter in addition to a plethora of other tools. [I love the flashlight!] It's also got a translator though I haven't tried it yet.

I am using skype. I have an app on my iphone too. I pay about 7 bucks a month for unlimited calls (10,000 minutes) to landlines and mobiles in the US. If you have an iphone that is jailbroken you can always have the skype application running in the background and it will always keep you signed in. Works pretty well and cheap!

Now with Vonage you can call landlines in Colombia and most other countries with no extra charge, it's included in your monthly price, (probably only with the $29.99 monthly plan) but still a charge for cell phones.

Yup, got it its a screaming deal even less than the basic regular phone thing.

Just FYI these days the calls are crystal clear, no need to give guys like att& t the big bucks anymore. I wish they would just get set up in colombia so we could recieve calls the same way with a colombian number!

Ah, how confusing. We're talking 2 separate issues: the mobile account and regular account.

As for the regular account, I was told not long ago that I'd have to plunk down an additional fee ($25?) to access Colombia. As it turns out, all I needed to do was convert my 500 minute account to the world account. Bob is correct.

The mobile account has no relation to the regular account and a separate account (and $25/mo. fee) is required. At least that's the info I received from the rep. However, I found the Vonage reps to be less than knowledgeable. The rep also told me that I could use my vonage mobile account to call the US when I'm in Colombia. I don't know whether to believe it, though I will pursue the matter.

Meanwhile, if it turns out that's not the answer to calling the US when in Colombia, what's my best alternative? My girlfriend has a cell phone.

I pay 15/month for skype on the computer - unlimited world calls, but it only works for land lines, they want extra doe for cell phones, as does magic jack. Meatsauce, For that 7/month have you tried calling colombia on skype ? If not, any idea what they charge for that ?
