Since The Shrinking Dollar thread was locked I'll have to start a new thread but similar topic. I found this to be a very interesting site with two informational videos at the bottom of the page.

I certainly do not know if the current President signed anything but given past support voiced by him and the non-funding resolution by Congress of the Super Highway between Mexico and Canada, I have my suspicions. :detective:

Of course I am so naive that I believe IF this had been done during the Clinton Administration, the Republican Congress would have tried Clinton for Treason.

The US. Government and the FED have no choice but to get the dollar bellow $.80. If it should go below $.78, then the dollar could free fall. Should that happen, a Plan “B” needs to be in place.

That won't happen the free fall business, the world would fall apart. But I bet it will drop for awhile, if we merge our dollar with mex and canada, but I still believe it to be a good idea and will unite our conitnent somewhat!

You mean I'd have to stop paying my undocumented gardener, tile guy, drywall hanger, painter, in pesos Mexicanos and pay them in more costly Amaros. How utterly unpatriotic. ... and I'll bet they'd just send them all back to México, too. ... and pretty soon the Mexicans will have all the Amaros and will get the best amantes.

Remittances have been falling off to Mexico for the past couple of years. How this will play out remains to be seen but a guess would be MORE illegal into the U.S. and greater crime rates in the poorest regions.

Here is a bit more background as to where the existing remittances are going.

“In contrast, the central-southern state of Michoacan, one of Mexico's least-developed, receives more than 10 percent of Mexico's remittances -- about $615 per person, with approximately one out of 10 households receiving payments.” - Stratfor

Whose Stratfer??? Michoacan although is not monterrey has some serious money. Interesting they would be sending so much there. I think there is a serious class disitnction, with it being the avacoado capital of the world rich land owners, poor land workers, I still believe Morelia as being the best city I have ever seen in Mexico!

Half of my 10 mexcian workers are from Michoacan, they are one proud group!

Some say what is grown in southern Michoacán competes with the best of the finest product coming out of Humboldt county these days; and both regions have conventional economies in trouble. ...but then they may not really need so much in remittances.

Strafor is a private intelligence service. Here is the linK:
www.stratfor.com.

The have a 10 day courtesy program and the yearly fee is about $300. A very well done over view of the world and does cover Latin America from time to time. The analysis is first rate. The company primarily caters to corporate needs especially “risk assessment” of conflict areas.

For political and economic voyeur (me), this is one of my favorite subscription services.
